Biodata Format for Job: 6 Filled Samples and What to Include

A biodata format for a job has six parts in this order: personal details, a two-line objective, education, work experience, skills, and a signed declaration with place and date. The one constraint is length, because a job biodata should fit on one page, and only the personal details the employer asks for belong on it. The Oxford Learner's Dictionary marks this sense as Indian English and gives the British and American equivalents as CV and résumé. Six filled biodata samples follow, from fresher to experienced. The biodata form at the bookstore asks for your height, your religion and your father's occupation. Your father is not applying for the job. Most of those boxes can stay out of a job biodata, and the samples below show which ones stay in.
A filled biodata format for a fresher
This is the layout most employers in the Philippines and India expect from a first-job applicant: personal details at the top, education before experience, and a declaration at the bottom.

Everything on that page is something an employer can check or use. The height, weight and religion boxes from the printed form are not there, and nothing was lost.
What biodata means, and how it differs from a resume
Biodata is short for biographical data. Cambridge Dictionary defines it as "details about someone's life, job, and achievements". Collins, quoted on Dictionary.com, narrows it to the hiring case: "information regarding an individual's education and work history, esp in the context of a selection process".
In practice a job biodata carries the same work history as a resume, plus a block of personal particulars and a signed declaration. Coursera's India guide to the biodata format puts the length plainly: "A job biodata is typically only a page long, while resumes may be a page or two long." The biodata format, section by section
- Personal details. Full name, address, mobile number, email. Date of birth and nationality only when the advert or the form asks, which government and overseas jobs often do.
- Objective. Two sentences: the job you want and the one thing that qualifies you. Our resume objective examples work here word for word.
- Education. Newest first: degree, school, year. Add grades or honors only if they help.
- Work experience. Newest first: job title, employer, place, dates, two to four lines of what you did.
- Skills. Software, licenses and languages, the ones the job uses.
- Declaration. One sentence that the details are true, then place, date and signature.
Coursera's guide is direct about what stays out: "When creating your biodata, you'll leave out some details you might add to other types of biodata, like marital status, height, weight, religion, race, and medical history." Add one of those only when the form you were given asks for it.

For government and school jobs in India the date of birth stays, because age limits apply to many posts. That is the line where a biodata really differs from a resume.

Government forms set their own fields, so fill the official form when one exists. When the notice asks for a plain biodata, keep the personal block fuller than for a private job.

How to make a biodata that gets read
- Fill the employer's form when there is one. A printed or online form beats your own layout because the reader knows where to look.
- Keep it to one page. Six sections fit; a photo, a hobby list and a family tree do not.
- Match the job title in the objective. The person sorting the pile reads the objective first.
- Sign and date it. An unsigned declaration looks unfinished on a biodata.

What is the format of biodata for a job?

A resume focuses on work history and skills for one job. Send whichever document the advert names, never both unless asked.
What should not be included in a biodata for a job?
Leave out height, weight, religion, caste, marital status, blood group and medical history unless the form asks. Never include bank details, passwords or private social media. A job biodata is about whether you can do the work, so every line should help the employer judge that.
Should I put a photo on my biodata?
Only if the employer or the form asks for one, which some government and overseas applications do. Then use a recent passport-style photo with a plain background in the top right corner. For private jobs that did not ask, leave it off and use the space for experience.
How do I write a declaration in a biodata?
Write one sentence: "I hereby declare that the information above is true and correct to the best of my knowledge." Below it put the place, the date and your signature. Keep the wording plain; the declaration matters because it makes you responsible for what the page says.
