Dental Nurse CV: 6 Complete UK Examples With GDC Lines

A dental nurse CV is read by a practice manager looking for four things before anything else: your GDC registration, your qualification, the kind of dentistry you have nursed for, and any additional skills such as radiography or impressions. Put those in the top third of the page. Below are six complete dental nurse CV samples you can copy: a trainee, a newly qualified nurse, an NHS general practice nurse, a private and implant clinic nurse, a hospital dental nurse and a lead nurse. Change the details and keep the layout.
Most dental nurse CVs promise excellent chairside manner. So does the leaflet in the waiting room, and nobody has ever been hired from that. The CV that gets the call says GDC number, runs the decontamination room and sedation-trained.
Example 1: trainee dental nurse
Trainees are hired on attitude and reliability, and on whether they will finish the course. Put your enrolment and expected completion date high up, and treat any reception or care work as real experience.

What the practice checks first
Registration comes before everything. The National Careers Service dental nurse profile states it plainly: "you'll need to register with the General Dental Council". It also explains the usual trainee route: "You could start as a dental nurse assistant with a public or private dental practice." Put your GDC number on the line under your name once you have it, and your course and expected date until then.
The second check is your scope. The GDC's scope of practice guidance explains that "When you work in the UK as a registered dental professional, what you can do depends on your professional title as registered with the GDC." It also describes "additional skills that you might develop after registration with the GDC to increase your personal scope of practice within the boundaries of your professional title." Radiography, impression taking, oral health education and sedation nursing are common examples, so give each one its own line.
The National Careers Service also lists the daily tasks, including "follow infection controls, like sterilising instruments" and "update and maintain patient records on a computer system". Use those words, and add the numbers.

Writing your own dental nursing lines
- Registration line first. GDC registered dental nurse and your number, directly under your name. The GDC explains how UK-qualified dental care professionals join in its registration guidance.
- Name the dentistry. General NHS, private, orthodontics, implants, sedation, oral surgery, special care, paediatric.
- Give the volume. Patients a day, surgeries, dentists you nurse for, trainees mentored.
- List additional skills separately. Radiography, impressions, oral health education, sedation, fluoride application where your training covers it.
- Add the essentials. Hepatitis B status, enhanced DBS and medical emergency training, on one line.
For layout, see what a CV looks like and, for a first job, a CV example with no experience. For nursing in other settings, see the nursing CV example. If you are applying in the US, the role is a dental assistant: use the dental assistant resume and dental assistant skills for a resume. For NHS applications that ask for a supporting statement, read cover letter vs supporting statement.
Frequently asked questions
What should a dental nurse put on a CV?
Your GDC registration and number, your dental nursing qualification, the types of dentistry you have nursed for, additional skills such as radiography or impressions, and Hepatitis B and DBS status.
How do I write a trainee dental nurse CV with no experience?
Lead with your course and expected completion date, then any reception, care or customer-facing work. Show reliability, care with records and calm with people.
Where does the GDC number go on a CV?
On the line under your name, with the words GDC registered dental nurse. Practice managers look for it there first.
Should I list additional dental nursing skills?
Yes, each one with the certificate and year. They change which rooms and clinics you can work in.
How long should a dental nurse CV be?
Two pages at most. One page is enough for trainees and newly qualified nurses.
