Entry Level Business Analyst Resume: 6 Samples to Copy

An entry level business analyst resume has to show three things without the job title: you can find out what people need, you can work with data, and you can write it down so someone else can build it. Requirements, SQL or Excel, process maps, a dashboard, a short document. Below are six complete samples: a new graduate, a former intern, and four career changers from operations, customer service, finance and retail. Each one is a full resume you can copy and edit.
Many business analyst job posts ask for years of experience for an entry level role. That is not a requirement. That is a wish list someone copied from the senior posting. Show the work, and the years matter less.

What the job asks of you
O*NET groups business analysts with management analysts, and the task list for that occupation reads like an entry level BA resume outline. It starts with "Gather and organize information on problems or procedures," then "Analyze data gathered and develop solutions or alternative methods of proceeding," then "Document findings of study and prepare recommendations for implementation of new systems, procedures, or organizational changes."
Gather, analyze, document, recommend. Give each of those at least one bullet on your resume, even if the bullets come from a class project or a job with a different title.
Data-heavy BA roles lean toward reporting. O*NET's business intelligence analyst page lists "Generate standard or custom reports summarizing business, financial, or economic data for review by executives, managers, clients, and other stakeholders." If the posting mentions dashboards or reporting, lead with the report you built.

The International Institute of Business Analysis offers the Entry Certificate in Business Analysis, and its page says "ECBA was built for the beginning of a business analysis career." It needs no prior experience, so it suits graduates and career changers. List it under a certifications heading with the year. If you are studying for it, write the planned exam month, not the credential.
Writing your own BA lines
- Use the BA verbs. Gathered, documented, mapped, analyzed, tested, recommended. More in our resume action verbs list.
- Name the artifact. User stories, BRD, process map, dashboard, test cases. Hiring managers look for the thing you produced.
- Count it. Requirements written, stakeholders interviewed, test cases run, hours saved.
- Match the posting's tools. SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Jira. Our business analyst resume keywords guide lists more.
- Keep the summary short. Two or three lines on your degree or background, your tools and one result. See resume summary with no experience.
