Google Docs Cover Letter Template: 6 Filled Letters to Paste

Google Docs has free cover letter templates in its Template Gallery: open docs.google.com, click Template Gallery at the top right, scroll to the Letters section, and pick the design that matches your resume. The one constraint is the content, because the template gives you a layout with placeholder text and nothing else. Google's own help page on templates explains the gallery in one line: "You can use Google-created templates like resumes, budgets, and order forms." Six filled letters follow, ready to paste. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
The template opens with "Dear Ms. Reader" and three paragraphs of placeholder text. A surprising number of letters go out with one of those sentences still in them. The six below have none.
A filled Google Docs cover letter, ready to paste
Paste this into any Google Docs letter template, replacing the placeholder body. The heading block goes where the template shows your name and address.

Mid level: cover letter for a project coordinator in Google Docs (145 words)
Jordan Lee Denver, CO | jordan.lee@email.com | (303) 555-0181
October 25, 2026
Ms. Rachel Burns Operations Director, Summit Builders Denver, CO
Dear Ms. Burns,
I am applying for the Project Coordinator role at Summit Builders posted on LinkedIn. For three years I have coordinated residential projects for a regional contractor, keeping schedules, subcontractors and client updates on track for up to six jobs at once.
Your posting asks for someone who can run weekly schedule updates and keep owners informed. In my current role I send every client a Friday update from our scheduling tool, and I rebuilt our submittal log in Google Sheets so the site superintendents can see what is still waiting on approval.
I would like to bring that same organization to your commercial projects. My resume is attached, and I would welcome a call to discuss the role.
Sincerely, Jordan Lee
Opening paragraph: the job and the one-line case. Middle paragraph: one requirement from the advert, met with proof. Close: the ask. Purdue's writing lab sets the same order for the opening, which should start with a greeting and then "a statement of who you are and why you are writing", as its cover letter introductions page puts it.
How to open a cover letter template in Google Docs
- Go to docs.google.com and sign in.
- Click Template gallery at the top right of the home screen.
- Scroll to Letters and click a design. Pick the one that matches your resume's font and header if you used a Docs resume template.
- Rename the file with your name and the company, for example "Jordan Lee cover letter Summit Builders".
- Replace every placeholder line, then use File, Download, PDF document to save the copy you send.
Already inside a document? Google's help page gives the second route: "Click File New From a template". To reuse a letter for the next job, it says "In the menu, click File Make a copy", which keeps the original untouched.
Matching the cover letter to your Google Docs resume
The gallery's letter designs pair with its resume designs, so the two pages look like one application. If your resume came from a Docs template, our guide to Google Docs resume templates shows which ones read cleanly in tracking systems. Keep the same font, the same heading color and the same name line on both documents.
Google Docs cover letter template for an entry-level job

Entry level: Google Docs cover letter for a bank teller (129 words)
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Bank Teller position at the Maple Street branch of First Prairie Bank. I have two years of cash handling experience as a cashier at a busy grocery store, where I balanced my drawer at the end of every shift and was trusted to train new cashiers on the register.
Your job posting mentions accuracy, customer service and a willingness to learn new systems. At the store I handled check and card payments, answered customer questions about returns, and learned the new self-checkout software quickly enough that my manager asked me to help other staff with it.
I am available to start in two weeks and can work Saturday shifts. Thank you for your time; my resume is attached.
Sincerely, Taylor Brooks
Google Docs cover letter template for a career change

Career change: Google Docs cover letter, retail manager to HR coordinator (127 words)
Dear Mr. Alvarez,
I am writing to apply for the HR Coordinator position at Brightline Health. After six years managing a retail store team of 25, I am moving into human resources, and I recently completed the SHRM Essentials of Human Resources course.
Much of my store role was HR work in practice. I ran hiring for every seasonal peak, interviewed and onboarded more than 60 associates, built the weekly schedule, and handled attendance and performance conversations in line with company policy.
Your posting asks for experience with onboarding and HR records. I kept new-hire paperwork complete for every associate I hired and passed each internal audit of the store's files. I would value the chance to explain how that experience fits your team.
Sincerely, Monica Reyes
Google Docs cover letter for an internship

Student: Google Docs cover letter for a marketing internship (112 words)
Dear Ms. Patel,
I am a junior at Arizona State University studying Marketing, and I am applying for the Summer Marketing Internship at Sonoran Coffee Co. listed on Handshake.
As social media chair for our campus coffee club, I plan the content calendar, write captions and track which posts bring people to events. Our attendance grew over two semesters after we moved from random posts to a weekly schedule.
I would love to learn how a regional brand plans campaigns across stores. I am available full time from May 18 to August 14, and my resume and two sample posts are attached.
Thank you for considering my application.
Best regards, Ethan Morales
Google Docs cover letter template for a senior role

Senior: Google Docs cover letter for a director of finance (111 words)
Dear Ms. Whitfield,
I am applying for the Director of Finance role at Northwind Manufacturing. I have twelve years in manufacturing finance, the last five leading a team of eight through monthly close, budgeting and lender reporting for a company with three plants.
You are looking for someone to modernize reporting before your planned expansion. At my current company I moved the monthly close from ten business days to five, replaced spreadsheet consolidation with our ERP's reporting module, and built the cash forecast our lenders now review each quarter.
I would welcome a conversation about the expansion and how I could support it. My resume is attached.
Sincerely, David Chen, CPA
Google Docs cover letter for an email application
When the employer asks you to email the application, the letter becomes the email body and the Docs version goes as a PDF attachment for the file.

Email version: cover letter body for a medical receptionist application (78 words)
Subject: Medical Receptionist application, Olivia Grant
Dear Dr. Simmons,
I am applying for the Medical Receptionist position at Riverside Family Clinic posted on Indeed. I have three years of front desk experience at a dental office, including scheduling, insurance verification and patient check-in on Dentrix.
I am comfortable on a busy phone line and careful with patient information. My resume and a PDF copy of this letter are attached.
Thank you for your time, Olivia Grant (555) 555-0124
Before you send the Google Docs file
- Search the document for leftover placeholder words such as "Lorem", "Company Name" and "Dear Ms. Reader".
- Download a PDF unless the employer asks for a Word file; the Docs link itself should never be what you send.
- Keep it to one page. Harvard's Mignone Center for Career Success advises: "When converting to a .pdf, check that your formatting translates".
- Match the resume. Same name line, same font, same contact details.
If you are writing many applications, the slow part is the content, not the template. In CVBooster you can fill any of the 99 templates free after you sign in and see your ATS score and gap list; the PDF and Word download is Pro. For the wording itself, use how to write a cover letter and our short cover letter examples.
Frequently asked questions
Does Google Docs have a cover letter template?
Yes. Open Google Docs, click Template gallery at the top right, and scroll to the Letters section. The letter designs match the gallery's resume designs, so you can pair them. You can also open a template from inside a document with File, New, From a template.
How do I make a cover letter in Google Docs?
Open a letter template from the Template gallery, replace the name and address block, then write three or four short paragraphs: the job and your one-line case, proof for the main requirements, and a closing that asks for an interview. Download it as a PDF before you send it.
Is a Google Docs cover letter template ATS friendly?
Mostly yes, because a letter is mainly plain paragraphs. Keep the body as normal text, avoid putting key details inside images or text boxes, and send a PDF or Word file rather than a link. Check the PDF by selecting the text to confirm it copies cleanly.
Can I download a Google Docs cover letter as a Word file?
Yes. Use File, Download and choose Microsoft Word (.docx), or PDF document for the version you attach. Open the Word copy before sending, because fonts and spacing can shift slightly when a Docs file is converted, especially with template fonts that Word does not have.
