Google Docs Resignation Letter Template: 6 to Paste
By CVBooster Team · Published · Updated

A Google Docs resignation letter template is a short letter you copy into a blank document, fill in four details (your title, your last day, a thank you, an offer to help) and send. Below are six complete letters to paste into Google Docs, for a standard two weeks notice, an email, an internship, a remote role, a manager and a move abroad, checked in November 2026. Pick the one closest to your case, change the brackets, and keep it to one page.
The hard part of resigning is not the letter, it is the stomach. The letter is four sentences. Paste one in, change the name, and the stomach can catch up later.
Example 1: the standard two weeks notice
This is the default. It states that you are leaving, gives a date, says thank you once and offers to help with the handover.

Entry level: Two weeks notice, any job (83 words)
Dear Ms. Alvarez,
I am writing to formally resign from my position as Sales Associate at Harbor Outfitters, effective Friday, December 5.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with the team over the past two years. I learned a great deal about customer service and inventory, and I am grateful for your support.
Over the next two weeks I will finish my open tasks and write handover notes for my section. I am happy to help train a replacement.
Sincerely, Jordan Lee

What career offices say a resignation letter needs
Northeastern University's career office, in its guide to resignation letters, gives the timing in one line: "The standard expectation is at least two weeks' notice before your last day." It also asks for brevity: "Keep it brief and professional." That is why every letter below fits on one page.
The University of Maryland's engineering career service says in its handout on resignation letters: "Resign in writing (email or printed letter) to avoid miscommunication. Avoid emotional language." The same handout adds "Inform your manager of your plans before telling any other colleagues." So tell the person first, then send the letter.
San Jose State University's writing center, in its handout on resignation letters, covers the format, so check it if you want the business letter layout in Google Docs.
How to set it up in Google Docs
- Open a blank document and paste the letter. Pick one plain font, such as Arial or Times New Roman, at 11 or 12 points.
- Set the margins to one inch under File, then Page setup.
- Put the date and your manager's name at the top, and your name typed under the closing.
- Read it once, then download it as a PDF under File, Download, to keep the layout fixed.
- If your employer wants it by email, paste the text into the message body and attach the PDF.

Dear Mr. Okafor,
Please accept this email as my formal resignation from my role as Operations Coordinator. My last day will be December 12.

Best regards, Priya Nair

Entry level: Internship or part-time job (77 words)
Dear Mr. Patel,
I am writing to let you know that I will be leaving my part-time role as Library Assistant, with my last day on December 8, because my final semester project needs more of my time.
Thank you for the training and the schedule flexibility over the past year. I have enjoyed working with the circulation team and would be glad to help train new student staff before I leave.
Thank you again, Dana Reyes

Mid level: Remote worker (74 words)
Dear Ms. Singh,
I am resigning from my position as Customer Support Specialist, effective December 19. This is my formal notice.
Working remotely with this team has been a good experience, and I appreciate how supportive everyone has been. Before my last day I will update the shared help documents, close my open tickets or hand them over, and return the laptop and headset to the address you send me.
Kind regards, Marcus Webb

Senior: Manager with a handover plan (81 words)
Dear Mr. Brooks,
Please accept this letter as notice of my resignation from my position as Regional Operations Manager, effective January 9. I am giving five weeks so there is time for an orderly handover.
It has been a privilege to lead the team through the warehouse move. Over the coming weeks I will brief my direct reports, hand over the vendor contacts and budget notes, and help with interviews for my successor.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely, Hannah Brooks

Senior: Resigning because of a relocation (68 words)
Dear Ms. Gomez,
I am writing to resign from my position as Senior Accountant, effective December 31. My family is relocating abroad, and I am giving seven weeks to cover year-end close.
Thank you for seven good years and for the chances to take on new work. I will finish the year-end reconciliations and train a colleague on the monthly close before I leave.
With thanks, Amy Collins
Before you hit send
Check your contract or employee handbook for the notice period: it overrides general advice. If you need more flexibility or an earlier exit, see our guide to resignation letters effective immediately. For more wording, see the free example of resignation letter and the resignation email guide. For the notice period itself, see 2 weeks notice. If you want the same Google Docs approach for applications, see the Google Docs cover letter template. Updating your CV for the next job comes after the last day, not before the letter.
What to leave out
- Complaints about the manager or the pay. The letter is a record. It will be read again if a reference call comes.
- Long thank-you speeches. One thank you is enough.
- A reason you do not want to give. You can leave it out entirely.
- Information about your next employer. Keep it for the conversation, not the file.
- Fancy templates. A plain document prints and forwards cleanly.
Frequently asked questions
Does Google Docs have a resignation letter template?
Google Docs offers a letter section in its template gallery, but a plain document is easier to edit. Paste one of the letters above and change the brackets.
How do I write a resignation letter in Google Docs?
Paste the text, add the date and your manager's name, state the title and last day, thank them once and offer to help with the handover. Download it as a PDF to send.
How much notice should I give?
Two weeks is the usual standard, and more for senior roles. Check your contract first, because it can set a longer period.
Should I send a resignation letter by email or print it?
Either works. Tell your manager in person first, then send the letter by email so there is a written record.
Do I have to give a reason?
No. A short line saying you are pursuing a new opportunity is enough, or leave the reason out.
