Sample EMT Resume: Six Full Examples for Every Level

Here is a complete sample EMT resume, followed by five more worked examples for a first job, a transfer service, a 911 service, a paramedic step-up and a candidate with no field time yet. The one constraint that decides the shortlist is the certification block: NREMT registry number, state licence, driving licence, and the expiry dates, all on page one. Task wording throughout is taken from the O*NET profile for Emergency Medical Technicians, and the pay figures come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, checked in September 2026. What an EMT resume is actually screened on
Three things, in this order: certification currency, whether you can drive the unit, and whether your assessment language sounds like someone who has been on a call.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics lists the typical entry-level education for the job as a "Postsecondary nondegree award" and records 284,100 jobs with 2025 median pay of "$48,150 per year" or "$23.15 per hour". That tells you two useful things. There are a lot of these jobs, and none of them are gated on a degree, so the resume is doing the whole sorting job.
Use the official task wording, not your own
The O*NET profile for Emergency Medical Technicians publishes the task list that most job adverts are quietly copied from. Borrow the verbs. Its tasks include "Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures", "Immobilize patient for placement on stretcher and ambulance transport, using backboard or other spinal immobilization device", and "Communicate with dispatchers or treatment center personnel to provide information about situation, to arrange reception of survivors, or to receive instructions for further treatment".
Read those against your own bullets. If your resume says "helped patients", you have thrown away the one vocabulary a hiring supervisor is scanning for.

- Completed around 9 interfacility transfers a shift, mainly dialysis, discharge and long-distance hospital-to-hospital moves up to 180 miles. - Monitored patients on oxygen, on tube feeds and with tracheostomies, escalating to the receiving facility 22 times in 2025 for changes en route. - Immobilized and moved bariatric patients up to 480 pounds using the stair chair and track system, with no staff injuries reported on my crew. - Completed handover documentation on the ePCR within 15 minutes of arrival on every run for two years.

No field experience yet? Use the clinicals
The commonest mistake in this group is leaving the program off as though it does not count. It counts. It is dated, supervised and specific, which is more than most entry-level applicants bring.
Write the program as a job. Give the hours, the number of assessments, the presentation types you saw and the skills you were signed off on. Then write your current job, whatever it is, in the same vocabulary: a warehouse job becomes lifting, shift discipline and radio use; a retail job becomes de-escalation and handover. Employers hiring at this level know they are buying attitude and a clean driving record.
Employers also have a legal reason to want you. OSHA's standard 1910.151 requires that where there is no clinic in near proximity, "a person or persons shall be adequately trained to render first aid". That is why industrial sites, events and rural districts hire EMTs who have never worked a 911 truck.
What to cut
- Objective statements. Replace with the profile paragraph above.
- "Hard-working team player". Say what you did on a call instead.
- Every course from the program listed separately. The certificate covers them.
- Patient identifiers or anything a privacy officer would flag. Numbers and presentation types only.
- A second page, unless you have more than five years on the road.

Frequently asked questions
What does a sample EMT resume need to include?
Five blocks: contact details, certifications with registry numbers and dates, a profile paragraph, field or clinical experience with volumes, and a skills list using the O*NET task vocabulary. Put certifications above everything except your name, because that is the first filter.
Where can I find the official NREMT sample exam?
On the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians website, which publishes its own sample question packets and candidate handbooks. Third-party question banks are practice, not official. Nothing on a resume page, including this one, substitutes for the Registry's own materials.
How do EMT patient assessment scenarios help my application?
They give you the vocabulary and the volumes to write bullets with. After a scenario block, you can say how many chest pain, respiratory and stroke presentations you assessed and which skills you were signed off on, which is far stronger than "completed EMT training".
How long should an EMT resume be?
One page up to about five years on the road, two pages after that. A first-job EMT resume that runs to two pages is padded, and the padding is usually the course module list, which the certificate already proves.
What do I put on an EMT resume with no experience?
Write your program as a job: hours, ride-along shifts, number of supervised assessments, presentation types and signed-off skills. Then translate your current work into the same language, and lead the page with your NREMT registry number and state certificate.
Do I list NREMT certification or my state licence first?
NREMT first, then the state certificate, then BLS. National registration is what transfers between states and is what most adverts name. List both with their numbers and expiry dates on the same block so nobody has to ask.
