Foreman resume keywords are the words that prove you run a crew, not just work on one: crew supervision, daily scheduling, safety meetings, OSHA 30, blueprint reading, quality checks, material takeoffs, production rates and coordination with the superintendent and other trades. Below are 48 of them in six groups, then seven complete resume sections that use them in real sentences, from first-time working foreman to general foreman.

Every foreman resume says team player. The crew of eight you kept on schedule through a wet March says it better, and it has a number in it.

Example 1: working foreman, first lead role

Where the keywords come from

O*NET's profile of first-line supervisors of construction trades and extraction workers is the federal job description for foremen, and it reads like a keyword list. Its tasks include "Supervise, coordinate, or schedule the activities of construction or extractive workers," "Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures," and "Estimate material or worker requirements to complete jobs." It also lists "Train workers in construction methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, or company policies."

Supervise, schedule, read blueprints, estimate materials, train. If those verbs are not on your resume, the hiring software and the superintendent will both assume you did not do them.

Safety training is the other keyword set. OSHA describes its Outreach Training Program this way: "The 10-hour class is intended to provide workers with awareness of common job-related safety and health hazards, while the 30-hour class is more appropriate for supervisors or workers with some safety responsibility." OSHA adds: "It is important to note that this is a voluntary program." Many employers still ask for the card in the job post. If you hold an OSHA 30 card, list it near the top.

Frequently asked questions

What keywords should a foreman resume include?

Crew supervision, scheduling, safety meetings, OSHA 30, blueprint reading, material takeoffs, production tracking, quality control and coordination with the superintendent and other trades.

How do I write a foreman resume with my first lead role?

List the working foreman or lead hand title with your crew size, the safety talks you run, the layout you do and the daily report you fill in. Keep your trade experience below it.

Should I put OSHA 30 on a foreman resume?

Yes, if you hold the card. Put it in a certifications line near the top, because many job posts ask for it.

What is the difference between a foreman and a general foreman on a resume?

A foreman runs one crew. A general foreman runs several foremen and their crews, so the resume talks about schedules, production across scopes and developing foremen.

How many keywords should I use?

Use the ones from the job post that you can prove. Each should appear in a bullet, and the most important can repeat in your skills or summary.
