Business Administrator Resume: 5 Examples and Key Skills

A business administrator resume shows that you keep an organization running: budgets, contracts, vendors, facilities, staff schedules, records and the systems that hold them together. Whoever hires you wants to see what you ran, how big it was and what got cheaper, faster or more reliable while you ran it. The one constraint is that the title means different things in different places, from a small company's office to a school district, so the resume must say which. O*NET lists Business Administrator as a title for administrative services managers, quoted below. Five complete examples follow. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
Business administrators are the reason the printer has paper, the lease was renewed and payroll went out on Friday. Nobody notices any of it, which is exactly why the resume has to.
What a business administrator does, in resume terms
The O*NET profile for administrative services managers includes Business Administrator among its job titles, and one of its core tasks reads: "Plan, administer, and control budgets for contracts, equipment, and supplies." The Bureau of Labor Statistics sums the job up: "Administrative services and facilities managers plan, direct, and coordinate activities that help an organization run efficiently."
That gives you the structure for every bullet: what you planned or controlled, how big it was, and what improved. Typical areas:
- Budgets and purchasing: the budget you managed, contracts negotiated, savings found.
- Facilities and vendors: offices, leases, maintenance, IT and service contracts.
- People and process: staff you supervised, onboarding, policies, schedules.
- Records and compliance: audits, insurance, licenses, document retention.
- Systems: accounting, HR and scheduling software you set up or ran.

Business administrator vs business administration resume
Two kinds of people search for this: those who hold the job title Business Administrator, and graduates with a business administration degree. If you are the second, your resume is about the degree and the first jobs it fits, and our administration resume examples cover entry roles in more detail. If you are the first, the degree is one line at the bottom and the page is about what you run. Name your setting in the summary: a company, a school district, a medical practice, a law firm or a town.

In a small business the administrator does everything that is not the product: finance support, HR basics, IT vendors, the office and often the owner's calendar. Show the range, and attach a number to each part.

Format and length
Use a reverse chronological format. One page is enough for up to about ten years of experience; two pages for senior administrators with large budgets and public roles. Keep the summary to three lines, put any required certificate in the header, and drop duties nobody doubts, such as answering email. Our one page resume guide shows what to cut first.
Frequently asked questions
What should a business administrator put on a resume?
Your setting and its size, the budget you manage, the areas you run such as purchasing, facilities, HR administration and contracts, and results with numbers: savings, faster processes, clean audits, completed projects. Add the software you use, your degree and any required certificate, such as a school business administrator certificate.
What is a good summary for a business administrator resume?
Three lines: your title and setting with its size, the areas you are responsible for, and one strong result or the role you want next. For example: business administrator for a 60-person manufacturer, running payroll, contracts and facilities on a $900,000 budget, moved accounts payable to a new system.
What skills should a business administrator list?
Budget management, purchasing, contract and vendor management, facilities management, HR administration and payroll, accounting software, compliance and audit preparation, and clear reporting to owners or boards. List the ones the posting names and prove each with a bullet that shows the scale and the result.
Can I use a business administration degree resume for this job?
Yes, for entry roles. Lead with the degree, internships and any office, finance or operations work, and describe each with results. Apply for office administrator, operations coordinator or assistant business administrator roles first. Once you manage a budget and vendors yourself, move the degree to the bottom.
How long should a business administrator resume be?
One page for up to about ten years of experience, two pages for senior administrators in school districts, local government or larger organizations. Use the second page only for relevant roles, projects and certificates. The first half of page one should show your current scope and best results.
