Car Salesman Resume Examples: 6 Samples for Every Level

A car salesman resume is a sales record on one page: units sold per month, how that compares to the team, your customer satisfaction results and the brands and pre-owned lots you have worked. Below are six complete resume examples for car salesman jobs, from a first-time applicant to a sales manager, checked in November 2026. Each one leads with numbers a sales manager can check against a CRM. Pick the closest sample, keep the structure, and replace the figures with your own.

A dealership general manager has seen self-motivated closer with a passion for cars on a hundred resumes this year. It tells him nothing about whether you sell 6 cars a month or 16. Put the units where he can find them.

Example 1: a first-time applicant

If you have never sold a vehicle, bring in retail, phone sales, hospitality or customer-facing work. Show you can talk to strangers, follow up, and hit a target.

What the sources agree on

The U.S. Department of Labor's O*NET database defines the nearest occupation, retail salespersons, this way: "Sell merchandise, such as furniture, motor vehicles, appliances, or apparel to consumers." Car sales sits inside that definition, and the same task list applies. It includes "Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires." and, specific to vehicles, "Estimate and quote trade-in allowances." Your resume should show you did exactly these things, in volume.

MIT's career office says in its resume guide: "Record accomplishments and contributions, not just responsibilities." In sales, the accomplishment is a number: units, gross, close rate, or rank.

Harvard's career services says in its resume guide that a resume "should highlight your strongest assets and skills, and differentiate you from other candidates seeking similar positions." In a dealership, the differentiators are brand, volume and consistency.
