Double Major on Resume: How to List It, With 6 Examples

To list a double major on a resume, write your one degree once and name both majors on the same line, for example "Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science", with the school, city and graduation date beside it. A double major is one degree with two majors, so it gets one entry, not two. Harvard's career office shows the same pattern in its resume guide, with formats such as "A.B. in History with a double concentration in Statistics". Below are six complete education sections, from a current student to an experienced hire, plus how a dual degree and a minor change the entry. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.

You did twice the coursework for one diploma, and now the resume wants it in one line. That feels unfair. It is also the right call, because the recruiter reading it wants to know two things fast: what you studied and when you finished.

How to list a double major on a resume

Use one entry for the degree and put both majors in it. Lead with the major closest to the job you are applying for, because the first one named is the one the reader remembers.

Complete Student: double major, standard one line format example, 20 words, laid out as it would sit in the application form

Student: double major, standard one line format (20 words)

EDUCATION University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science, expected May 2027 GPA: 3.6

If the two majors sit in different fields, writing "Double Major" makes the structure clear at a glance:

Complete Student: double major written out, with relevant coursework example, 37 words, laid out as it would sit in the application form

Student: double major written out, with relevant coursework (37 words)

EDUCATION University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX Bachelor of Science, Double Major in Computer Science and Mathematics, expected May 2027 GPA: 3.7 | Dean's List, four semesters Relevant coursework: Data Structures, Probability, Linear Algebra, Machine Learning

Both formats are correct. Pick one and keep it the same everywhere you mention the degree, including your LinkedIn profile and application forms.

Where to put a double major and minor

A minor goes on its own line under the degree, or after the majors separated by a comma. Do not let it sit on the same level as the majors, or the reader will count three subjects of equal weight.

Complete Graduate: double major and minor on one education entry example, 27 words, laid out as it would sit in the application form

Graduate: double major and minor on one education entry (27 words)

EDUCATION Ohio State University, Columbus, OH Bachelor of Arts, May 2026 Majors: Psychology and Sociology Minor: Statistics Senior thesis: Sleep and study habits among first year students

Placement depends on your experience. CareerOneStop advises: "Place Education near the top if it's an essential requirement for the job or you're a new grad, otherwise place this after Work History." For most students and recent graduates, that means education goes straight after the summary.

Double major vs dual degree on a resume

A dual degree is two separate degrees, often a BA and a BS, with two diplomas. That gets either two lines under the same school or one line naming both degrees. Harvard's guide shows concurrent degrees written as "Concurrent Degrees: S.M. Computer Science; A.B. Applied Mathematics".

Complete Graduate: dual degree, two diplomas from one university example, 29 words, laid out as it would sit in the application form

Graduate: dual degree, two diplomas from one university (29 words)

EDUCATION University of Washington, Seattle, WA Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering, June 2026 Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, June 2026 GPA: 3.5 | Study abroad: Universidad de Salamanca, Spain

If your school calls it a double major, write double major. If it awarded two degrees, write two degrees. The wording on your transcript decides it, and employers who run a degree check will see the transcript.

Use the double major in your summary, not just the education section

The education section proves the degree. The summary is where you say why two majors help with this job. One sentence is enough.

Complete Entry level: summary that puts the double major to work example, 41 words, laid out as it would sit in the application form

Entry level: summary that puts the double major to work (41 words)

SUMMARY Recent graduate with a double major in Economics and Political Science, applying for a policy analyst role. Wrote a senior thesis on state minimum wage changes using public labor data, and interned for a state legislator's office drafting constituent briefs.

Double major on an experienced resume

After a few years of work, the education section moves to the bottom and shrinks. Drop the GPA, coursework and Dean's List, and keep the degree line with both majors.

Complete Experienced: education section after six years of work example, 13 words, laid out as it would sit in the application form

Experienced: education section after six years of work (13 words)

EDUCATION Boston University, Boston, MA Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Philosophy, 2020

MIT's career office asks for "a standard and consistent format", and that applies here too: one line, both majors, the year. If only one major is relevant to the job you are applying for now, you can still list both; it costs three words.

Frequently asked questions

How do you list a double major on a resume?

Write the degree once and name both majors on the same line, such as Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science, with the school, location and graduation date. A double major is one degree, so it gets one entry. Put the major most relevant to the job first and keep the order the same everywhere.

Should I write "double major" on my resume?

You can. Writing Double Major in Computer Science and Mathematics makes the structure clear, especially when the majors are in different fields. Writing Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics is equally correct. Choose one wording and use it consistently on your resume, LinkedIn profile and applications.

How do I list a double major and a minor on a resume?

Put both majors on the degree line or on a Majors line under it, then the minor on its own line below. Keep the minor visually smaller so it does not read as a third major. If space is tight, one line works: Majors: Psychology and Sociology; Minor: Statistics.

Is a double major the same as a dual degree on a resume?

No. A double major is one degree with two majors and gets one entry. A dual degree means two degrees, such as a BA and a BS, and gets two lines or one line naming both degrees. Follow the wording on your transcript, since that is what a degree check will confirm.

How do I list an unfinished double major on a resume?

List the degree you completed with its one major, then add the second subject as relevant coursework or, if your school awarded it, as a minor. Do not list a major you did not finish. If an interviewer asks, explain briefly why you focused on one major, without apologizing.
