An entry level customer service resume proves one thing: you can deal with a stranger who has a problem and leave them calmer than you found them. Below are six complete samples for a first job, a retail or restaurant background, a call center, a remote role and a student, checked in November 2026. Pick the closest, keep the structure, and swap in your own workplaces and numbers.
Every customer service resume says "excellent communication skills." So does the resume of the person who once hung up on a regional manager. Prove the skill with a headcount, a queue and a result.
Example 1: first job, no work history
With no paid work, use school, volunteering and group projects. The goal is a few lines that sound like customer service.

What the work involves, in the government's words
The U.S. Department of Labor's O*NET summary for customer service representatives lists the tasks. They include "Keep records of customer interactions or transactions, recording details of inquiries, complaints, or comments, as well as actions taken." and "Resolve customers' service or billing complaints by performing activities such as exchanging merchandise, refunding money, or adjusting bills." Use those verbs for what you did at a counter, a till or a help desk.
MIT's career office says in its resume guide: "Record accomplishments and contributions, not just responsibilities." For customer service, the accomplishment is volume handled, a problem fixed, or a rating earned.
Harvard's career services, in its guide to a strong resume, says "By articulating why you are a fit for a particular role, you can increase your chances of being interviewed." Match the words of the posting: if it asks for chat support, say you answered chat.

How to build the resume in order
- Summary. Two lines: your closest experience and the setting you want.
- Experience. Counter, till, phone, chat or help desk work first, with how many people you served.
- Results. A rating, a fix, a record kept, a first-reply close.
- Skills. Tools you know, such as a POS or a ticket system, plus languages.
- Education. One line unless you are a recent graduate.
For the bigger picture, see the customer service resume guide, customer service skills on a resume and resume keywords for customer service. For the role page, see the customer service resume and the customer service cover letter. With no work history at all, see CV examples with no work experience.
What to leave out
- Excellent communication skills. Show the call count instead.
- Every shift you worked. Keep the jobs where you dealt with people.
- Ratings you made up. Use a survey you actually saw, or skip it.
- Jargon from your old job. Translate it for a customer service reader.
- A photo. It is not expected on a US resume.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write an entry level customer service resume?
Open with a two-line summary, then list jobs or volunteer work where you served people, with numbers, then skills and education. One page is enough.
What if I have no customer service experience?
Use volunteering, school jobs, group projects, or any role where you answered questions or solved a problem for someone.
What skills do entry level customer service resumes need?
Phone etiquette, active listening, de-escalation, typing, a ticket or POS system, and written communication.
Should I include a summary or objective?
A short summary that names the role and your closest experience works well. Skip a long objective.
How long should it be?
One page. Entry level means fewer lines, not smaller type.
