Pharmacy Resume Sample: 6 Examples for Every Level

By · Published · Updated

6 min read

A pharmacy resume lists your license and degree near the top, then proves with numbers how safely and how quickly you work: prescriptions verified, interventions made, errors prevented, staff supervised. Below are six complete pharmacy resume samples, from a new PharmD graduate to a pharmacy manager, including a pharmacy technician version, and the lines a hiring pharmacist checks first.

Pharmacy is the one job where "attention to detail" is not a trait, it is the work. So do not claim it. Count it.

Example 1: a new PharmD graduate

Lead with licensure status and clinical rotations. Rotations are your work history, so give them the space a job would get.

What the sources agree on

The U.S. Department of Labor's O*NET database describes the job in two clauses: pharmacists "Dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patients about medications and their use." So the resume should show both halves: dispensing (volume and accuracy) and information (counseling, interventions, education).

MIT's career office says in its resume guide: "Record accomplishments and contributions, not just responsibilities." Verified prescriptions is a responsibility. Catching a drug interaction is an accomplishment.

Harvard's career services asks for resume language that is "Fact-based (quantify and qualify)", in its resume guide. In pharmacy, the facts are volumes, accuracy, interventions and turnaround time.

Where to put what

A new graduate leads with education and rotations. An experienced pharmacist leads with experience and drops the rotations. For the right format and layout, see the pharmacist resume and pharmacy technician resume templates. To go with the resume, see the pharmacist cover letter guide and the pharmacist interview questions. If you are looking at the drug industry instead of a pharmacy counter, see pharma resume examples.

Frequently asked questions

What should a pharmacy resume include?

How do I write a pharmacy resume with no experience?

Lead with your degree and licensure status, then list rotations and internships as jobs, with prescription counts, counseling and interventions.

Should I put my pharmacist license number on my resume?

Only if the application asks. Name the state and year of licensure, and give the number to employers who need it when they ask.
