Marketing Covering Letter Examples: 7 UK Samples by Level

A covering letter for marketing works when it reads like a small campaign with one audience: the hiring manager, one message, that you have already done the work in this advert, and one piece of proof per paragraph. Keep it to three to five short paragraphs, name the role in the first line and put a result in the second. The structure below follows the National Careers Service guidance on covering letters, and the role wording follows its job profiles for marketing executive and marketing manager, all checked in October 2026. Seven complete marketing covering letter examples follow, tagged by level. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
Every marketing covering letter opens with "I am passionate about marketing". You are applying to a marketing job. That is not a differentiator. That is the sign on the door.
The graduate example comes first, because it is the letter most people searching for a marketing covering letter sample are writing.

Graduate marketing assistant, entry level (165 words)
Dear Ms Patel,
I am applying for the Marketing Assistant role at Harbour Lane Foods, advertised on your careers page. I graduated in July with a 2:1 in Marketing from the University of Leeds and spent my final year running the social accounts for the university's food society.
In that year I grew the society's Instagram following from 600 to 2,100 by posting three recipe reels a week and partnering with two local cafés on a student discount. I also planned the society's freshers' fair stall and wrote the copy for its printed flyers.
Your advert asks for someone who can support campaigns across social, email and events. I have done all three on a small budget, and I am comfortable in Canva, Meta Business Suite and Mailchimp. I would like to bring that energy to a brand I already buy from.
Thank you for considering my application. My CV has the details, and I would welcome the chance to talk.
Yours sincerely, Amira Hassan
How to structure a marketing covering letter
The National Careers Service describes it as "a short letter, usually 3 to 5 paragraphs long." It also says: "You should always include a cover letter when you apply for a job using a CV." For marketing, use the paragraphs this way:
- Opening: the job title, where you saw it, and who you are in one line.
- Proof: one campaign or project with a number in it.
- Match: the two or three things the advert asks for, answered in its own words.
- Close: thanks, availability and how to reach you.
On names, the guidance says: "It's important to try to address your cover letter to someone by name." If you know the name, end with "Yours sincerely". If you used "Dear Sir or Madam", end with "Yours faithfully". In marketing, finding the hiring manager's name on LinkedIn takes two minutes and shows you can research an audience, which is the job.
Use the advert's words, not your own
The guidance asks you to "match the keywords used by the employer in their job advert." Marketing adverts lift their language from the same places. The marketing executive profile lists tasks such as "research customer and market trends to inform campaigns", "write and edit content for print and online campaigns" and "analyse data to plan and evaluate marketing campaigns."
If the advert says "evaluate campaigns", say evaluate, and then give the number you evaluated. If it says "content", do not write "copy". The letter is read by a person, but the CV it sits with may be filtered first by software that matches words.

Placement year student, marketing internship (124 words)
Dear Mr Collins,
I am a second year Business and Marketing student at Nottingham Trent University, applying for your 12-month marketing placement starting next September.
Last summer I volunteered with a local food bank, writing its Facebook posts and a monthly email to 900 supporters. Open rates rose after I moved the send day from Monday to Thursday and wrote shorter subject lines, and two posts about the winter appeal were the most shared in the charity's history.
Your advert mentions supporting the events team and building weekly reports. I have used Google Analytics in my coursework and I am fluent in Excel pivot tables.
Thank you for your time. I can start any date from the end of June.
Yours sincerely, Ben Okafor

Marketing executive, mid level, three years (147 words)
Dear Ms Wright,
I am applying for the Marketing Executive post at Cotswold Outdoor Living, reference ME-214. For the last three years I have been the only marketer at a garden furniture retailer, running email, paid social and the website.
Last spring I planned and ran our summer sale campaign across email, Meta ads and in-store displays. It brought in 1,400 new email subscribers and the best May trading week the business has recorded.
Your advert asks for someone to plan campaigns from brief to report, manage a budget and work with an agency. I manage a monthly paid social budget, brief our photographer and print supplier, and send the directors a campaign report every month with what worked and what I would cut.
I would enjoy doing that for a larger range and a bigger team. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely, Charlotte Mills

Digital marketing executive, mid level (142 words)
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to apply for the Digital Marketing Executive role at Brightwater Lettings. I have spent four years in digital marketing at an estate agency group, owning search, paid social and the property listings feed.
My largest project was moving our property ads from manual posts to a dynamic catalogue on Meta. Cost per enquiry fell by about a third within three months, and the sales team stopped asking me why the old listings were still live.
You are looking for strong Google Ads, GA4 and Search Console skills. I use all three every day and I hold the Google Ads Search certification. I also write the landing pages myself, so I can change a page the same afternoon a test ends.
Thank you for reading. I am available for interview at any time.
Yours faithfully, Daniel Reid

Content and social media executive, mid level (144 words)
Dear Ms Nguyen,
I am applying for the Content Executive role at Kestrel Travel. I write and plan content for a regional tour operator, from blog guides to Instagram and the monthly newsletter.
Over the last year I rewrote our twelve most visited destination guides, adding practical detail from our guides on the ground. Those pages now bring in more organic visits than the rest of the blog together, and they are the pages our sales team sends to customers who ask questions.
Your advert asks for someone who can write in a clear brand voice, plan a content calendar and report on performance. I keep our calendar in Notion, write to a style guide I helped create, and report monthly on visits, saves and enquiries.
I would love to talk about your autumn campaigns. Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely, Lucy Fernandes

Career changer, from sales to marketing, entry level (131 words)
Dear Mr Ahmed,
I am applying for the Marketing Coordinator role at Northgate Fitness. I have spent five years in membership sales at a gym chain, and I am moving into marketing after finishing the CIM Foundation Certificate in Professional Marketing this year.
In sales I saw which messages brought people through the door. I suggested a referral offer for existing members, wrote the posters and the email myself, and it became the club's main source of new joiners for two quarters.
Your advert asks for someone who understands the member journey and can support local campaigns. I have sold to your exact audience at the front desk, and I now have the marketing training to plan the campaign behind it.
Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely, Priya Sharma

Marketing manager, senior level (155 words)
Dear Ms Turner,
I am applying for the Marketing Manager role at Elm and Stone Interiors. I currently lead a team of four at a homeware brand with 30 stores and a growing online shop.
In the last two years I rebuilt our marketing plan around the customer data we already held. We cut spend on print, moved budget to email and paid social, and online sales grew faster than store sales for the first time. I also led the launch of our first own-brand range, from naming to in-store point of sale.
Your advert asks for someone to set the marketing strategy, manage the budget and an agency, and report to the board. I present our plan and results to the board each quarter and manage both our creative and media agencies.
I would welcome the chance to discuss your plans for the next year. Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely, Hannah Lewis
What changes as you move up
A graduate letter proves energy and basic tools with one real project. A marketing executive letter proves you can run a campaign end to end. A manager's letter proves strategy, budget and people. The marketing manager profile lists the senior tasks plainly: "create marketing and social media strategies", "oversee and approve campaign content, budgets and targets" and "report on the effectiveness of campaigns." A manager's covering letter that only talks about posting on Instagram has applied for the wrong job.
Whatever the level, keep one number per paragraph and make sure it is yours. If a figure is confidential, give the direction and the scale, such as "the best May trading week the business has recorded", rather than the figure.
Mistakes that cost marketing interviews
- A generic letter. The guidance says to "write a new one for every job you apply for and make sure it's tailored to the company and the specific role."
- A wall of adjectives: creative, passionate, data driven. Swap each for the campaign that proves it.
- Different fonts on the letter and the CV. Use "the same font and size as you do for your CV, so it looks consistent", as the guidance puts it.
- Over one page. A marketing team judges you on how much you can say in a small space.
For the CV that goes with the letter, the UK CV examples show the format, and the professional cover letter examples cover other office roles. For the general structure, see how to write a cover letter, and for a placement or internship, the intern cover letter guide. The marketing manager cover letter and the marketing assistant resume are written for the US market but use the same proof points.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write a covering letter for a marketing job?
Name the role and where you saw it, give one campaign or project with a result, answer the two or three things the advert asks for in its own words, and close with thanks and your availability. Keep it to three to five short paragraphs and address it to a named person where you can.
What should a marketing covering letter include?
The job title, a one-line introduction, one real result, the tools the advert names, such as Google Ads, GA4, Meta Business Suite or Mailchimp, and a short close. For senior roles add budget, team size and who you report to. Leave out lines that could appear in any letter.
How do I write a marketing covering letter with no experience?
Use a university project, a society, volunteering or a side project where you promoted something to an audience, and give the result. Add any course, such as a CIM qualification, and the tools you have used. The graduate and placement student samples above show the pattern.
How long should a marketing covering letter be?
One page, three to five paragraphs, as the National Careers Service suggests. Most of the samples above are under 250 words. In marketing, a short letter that lands one result is itself proof that you can write to a brief.
Should I end a marketing covering letter with yours sincerely or yours faithfully?
Use "Yours sincerely" when you know the person's name and "Yours faithfully" when you start with "Dear Sir or Madam". "Dear Hiring Manager" is also an unnamed reader, so "Yours faithfully" is the consistent close, as in the digital marketing sample above.
