MBA Admission Resume: 6 Examples for Business School

An MBA admission resume is a one-page record of progression: what you did, how much responsibility you were given and what changed because of you. Below are six complete MBA application resumes, for a finance analyst, an engineer, a consultant, a military officer, a nonprofit manager and a founder, checked in November 2026. Each one fits on a page, keeps every bullet to two lines and puts a number on the result. If you are applying for a job rather than a place on a programme, use the closest page from our MBA graduate resume instead.
An admissions reader may go through hundreds of these in a cycle, and half of them open with a dynamic leader who has a passion for business. The other half open with a number. Be the second half.
Example 1: a finance analyst applying to a full-time MBA
This is the classic profile: three to five years in a bank or advisory firm, a strong promotion path and one leadership role outside work. Lead with the promotion and the scale of what you handled.

What the schools say
Admissions offices publish more than you think. Georgetown's McDonough School says in its advice on preparing your MBA resume: "Keep your resume to one or two pages." It also asks for short bullets: "Try to make sure that each bullet does not exceed three lines." And it warns about shorthand: "Avoid using industry-specific language and acronyms." The reader may come from a different industry from yours.
Wharton is stricter about length. Its application requirements say: "We expect your resume to be one single page." It also asks for more than duties: "The bullet points for each role should not read like a basic job description." If two schools disagree on length, follow the school in front of you, and check each one's page every cycle.
Berkeley Haas tells applicants what it wants to see in its apply guide: "We are interested in the progression and milestones of your career." That sentence is the brief for every example here. Show the step up, the promotion and the wider scope, not just the daily tasks.

The structure under all six
- Education first. Degree, school, graduation year, GPA if it is strong, and the test score with the year.
- Experience in reverse order. Employer, title and dates, with promotions shown on separate lines.
- Bullets. Two lines each. Problem, action, result. Scale first: money, people, months.
- Leadership and community. Roles outside work that show you lead people when nobody has to follow you.
- Additional. Languages and interests, in one line each. Real interests only; an interviewer may ask.
- Length. One page, unless the school says two.
Georgetown suggests a Problem, Action, Result format and says to include "Employment Gaps" in the optional essay if a gap runs past three months, so keep the resume itself clean. For wording help, see our guides to a one page resume, the two page resume and the MBA recommendation letter. For an overview of layouts, see resume format guide.
What to leave out
- A summary or objective. Wharton suggests dropping it if you need the space.
- Industry jargon. Spell out acronyms. The reader may not know your field.
- Duties with no result. Responsible for client accounts tells nobody what changed.
- Inflated titles. Admissions teams check, and a gap between your title and your recommender's description costs you.
- A photo or personal details. Leave out date of birth, marital status and address lines beyond city.
Frequently asked questions
How long should an MBA admission resume be?
One page for most schools. Some, like Georgetown, accept two, so read the instructions for each school you apply to.
What should an MBA admission resume include?
Education and test scores, professional experience with promotions and quantified results, leadership and community roles, and a short additional section with languages and interests.
Should an MBA resume have a summary or objective?
Usually not. Wharton's admissions committee suggests dropping it when you need space, and the bullets already tell the reader who you are.
Is an MBA resume different from a job resume?
Yes. It stresses progression, scale and leadership in a form a non-specialist can read, and it often puts education at the top. A job resume is tuned to a posting.
Do I need to explain a gap in my MBA resume?
If the gap is longer than three months, Georgetown suggests using the optional essay rather than the resume.
