A resume for work from home jobs looks like any strong resume with three additions: your remote roles labeled as remote, proof that you work well without a manager in the room, and the tools you use to stay in touch. Below are six complete work from home resume examples, from a first remote job to a remote manager, checked in November 2026. Each one shows how to name remote work, which numbers to use and what a hiring manager looks for. Pick the closest sample and replace the details with your own.
A remote job posting can draw a crowd of applicants, and many of them write self-motivated, excellent communicator, works well independently in the summary. Everyone who works from home is self-motivated; nobody got hired for saying so. Show the outcome you delivered without being watched.
Example 1: your first work from home job
If you have never worked remotely, use what is transferable: self-directed projects, online coursework, volunteer work with a distributed team, or any job where you managed your own schedule. Name the tools.

What the sources agree on
MIT's career office tells applicants in its resume guide: "Employers may use keyword scanning on resumes, so know what words are relevant to the industry and position and ensure they appear in your resume." Remote postings attract the most applications, so keywords matter more. Copy the tools and skills the posting names, if they are true.
The same guide says: "Look at the skills required for the position and select experiences where you demonstrated those skills." For a remote job, the skills are usually written communication, self-direction and a named tool stack.
Harvard's career services lists "Written for people who / systems that scan quickly" among the principles of resume language in its resume guide. It also says a resume "should highlight your strongest assets and skills, and differentiate you from other candidates seeking similar positions." Clear headings and plain text help both.
One more thing before you apply. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission warns in its consumer alert on remote job searches that scammers post fake remote listings and ask for bank details early. The FTC's advice is to research the employer and never pay for a job or equipment. A real employer does not need your bank details before an offer.

How to show remote work on a resume
- Label it. Add "(Remote)" after the job title or in the location line, as in the samples.
- Name the tools. Slack, Zoom, Asana, Jira, Notion, Google Workspace, whichever you have used.
- Show async habits. Written updates, handoff notes, design documents, shared task boards.
- Use results. Tickets resolved, projects delivered, time zones covered.
- Keep the address short. City and state, or just "Remote, US", is enough.
For role-specific pages, see the remote worker resume and the remote customer service representative resume. For skills, read the hard skills guide and the soft skills guide. To see how software screens your file, read what ATS software does.
What to leave out
- A full home address. City and state, or "Remote", is plenty.
- Self-motivated, with no result. Replace it with something you delivered.
- Personal setup details that do not matter. One line on equipment is enough.
- Scam-style requests. Never send bank or ID details with an application.
- A photo. Not used on US resumes.
