Hospitality CV Example: 7 UK CVs for Bar, Hotel and Kitchen

A good hospitality CV is one page that tells a manager which service you can run, how busy it was, and which shifts you can work, with the role you want named in the first line. The constraint is that hospitality hires fast and for a specific gap, so a CV written for "any job in hospitality" loses to one written for this kitchen, this bar or this front desk. The National Careers Service puts it plainly: "You should tailor your CV to the job or opportunity you're applying for." Below are seven complete CV samples for hospitality, checked in October 2026, tagged by level: a school leaver, waiting staff, bar supervisor, chef de partie, hotel receptionist, housekeeping supervisor and general manager. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
Every hospitality CV says "works well under pressure". You have done a Mother's Day Sunday lunch with two chefs off sick. That is not pressure. That is a siege with gravy, and the CV should say how many covers you got through it.
School leaver with no hospitality experience
The National Careers Service waiter profile says: "You can apply for waiter jobs without experience as you'll get training on the job." So the first CV is about reliability, not history.

Entry level: school leaver, first job as waiting staff (128 words)

PROFILE Recent school leaver looking for a part-time waiting staff role at a busy café or restaurant. Available evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Calm with the public after two years helping at my local football club's matchday tea bar.

Waiting staff, two years in
At this stage the numbers do the work: covers per shift, section size, and anything you are trusted with beyond your own tables.

Entry level: waiter or waitress, two years in casual dining (139 words)
DANIEL OKAFOR Manchester | 07700 900587 | daniel.okafor@example.com

Bar supervisor with a personal licence
If you want to run a bar, say whether you hold a personal licence. GOV.UK explains that "every sale or supply of alcohol is authorised by a personal licence holder", and to get one "You must be 18 years or older and hold a licensing qualification". A supervisor who already holds it is one less job for the manager.

Mid level: bar supervisor, four years on busy bars (155 words)
SOPHIE HARGREAVES Bristol | 07700 900233 | sophie.hargreaves@example.com
PROFILE Bar supervisor with four years on high-volume bars, currently running a team of six at a 300-capacity venue on event nights. Personal licence holder. Strong on cellar management, stock counts and keeping a queue moving without cutting corners on Challenge 25.

Chef de partie
A head chef reads a kitchen CV for the section, the covers and the standard of the kitchen. Name all three.

Hotel or restaurant general manager
At manager level the reader wants the size of the business and what changed while you ran it. The National Careers Service hotel manager profile lists "the ability to motivate and manage staff" and "business management skills" first among the skills, so give evidence of both. The role page for a hospitality manager resume has three more summaries.

Hospitality CV template you can copy
If you searched for a CV template for hospitality, this is the layout every example above uses. Copy it into a plain document, keep the headings in this order, and replace each line in capitals with your own details. It fits on one page for every role except general manager or head chef.

Template: one page hospitality CV layout for UK jobs (131 words)
YOUR NAME Town | mobile number | email address
PROFILE JOB YOU DO NOW, at TYPE AND SIZE OF VENUE (covers, rooms or team size). Looking for a JOB YOU WANT role. Available EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, BANK HOLIDAYS.
EXPERIENCE JOB TITLE, VENUE NAME, TOWN, MONTH YEAR to present What you ran: covers per service, rooms per shift, tills, team size One problem you fixed or a standard you kept, with a number One responsibility beyond your job title: training, cashing up, ordering
PREVIOUS JOB TITLE, VENUE NAME, TOWN, MONTH YEAR to MONTH YEAR Two bullets in the same pattern
LICENCES AND TRAINING Personal licence, Level 2 Food Hygiene, first aid, COSHH (only what you hold)
SYSTEMS EPOS, booking system, property management system you have used
EDUCATION School or college, qualifications, year
The template is deliberately plain. Hospitality managers read CVs between services, often on a phone, and columns or graphics break up badly on a small screen. For a retail version of the same idea, see our retail CV template. If you are moving from hotels or restaurants into the air, the same customer stories power a cabin crew cover letter.
How to write a hospitality CV that gets a trial shift
I wrote the job adverts for my own company, and I knew the three things I was looking for before the first application came in. Most CVs never mentioned any of them. The posting is the brief: if the advert asks for weekend availability, cellar experience and a personal licence, those three things go in your profile, in that order.
- Profile, three lines: the job you do, the size of the place, and the job you want next.
- Experience: venue, town, dates, then three bullets with covers, rooms, team size or tills.
- Licences and training: personal licence, food hygiene level, first aid, COSHH.
- Availability: evenings, weekends, bank holidays, nights. Hospitality managers hire around the rota.
- Skills: the EPOS, booking and property management systems you have used.
What to leave out matters as much. The National Careers Service says: "You should not include your age, your date of birth, whether you're married or your nationality." There is more on that in what not to include on a UK CV. If you have no work history yet, the CV personal statement with no experience guide has eight profiles you can borrow from, and our main CV examples page covers other industries.
Frequently asked questions
What should a hospitality CV include?
Your contact details, a three line profile naming the role you want, your work history with venue, dates and numbers such as covers or rooms, licences and training such as a personal licence or food hygiene level, the systems you have used, and your availability. Keep it to one page unless you are applying for a management role.
How do I write a hospitality CV with no experience?
Lead with availability and reliability. Use school, volunteering, sport and any customer-facing work, even a matchday tea bar or a family business, and show cash handling, teamwork and timekeeping. The National Careers Service says waiters can apply without experience and train on the job, so employers expect it.
How long should a CV for hospitality be?
One page for waiting staff, bar, kitchen, housekeeping and reception roles. Two pages is fine for general managers and head chefs with a long history. Managers in hospitality often read CVs between services, so put the role, the venue size and your availability where they can be seen in seconds.
Should I put my food hygiene certificate on my CV?
Yes, if you hold one. Put it under licences and training with the level, for example Level 2 Food Hygiene, and add a personal licence, first aid or COSHH training on the same line. Kitchen and front of house managers look for that section before they read the rest.
Is there a free CV template for hospitality jobs?
Yes. The one page template on this page is free to copy: name and contact details, a three line profile, experience with covers, rooms or team size, licences and training, systems and education. Keep the headings in that order, use British spelling, and replace every capitalised line with your own details before you send it.
What is the best format for a hospitality CV in the UK?
Reverse chronological, most recent job first, on a plain one page layout with clear headings. Use British spelling, leave out a photo and your date of birth, and make sure the job title you want appears in the first line of the profile so it matches the advert.
