Resumes for the hospitality industry that get callbacks are one page, name the exact job in the first line, and size the work in covers, rooms, check-ins or sales, with the shifts you can work in plain view. Hospitality managers hire for a gap on next week's schedule, so a resume aimed at "any hospitality role" loses to one aimed at this front desk, this line or this dining room. The duty wording below comes from the O*NET profiles for hotel desk clerks, servers, restaurant cooks, housekeepers and lodging managers, checked in October 2026. Eight complete example resumes for the hospitality industry follow, tagged by level. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.

Every hospitality resume claims "excellent customer service skills". So does the self-checkout machine. The manager wants the Saturday you worked a double with two people out sick, written as a number.

The first example is a host stand resume, because it is the most common first job in the industry.

Write the job, not the industry

The industry is the umbrella. The resume is for one job under it. O*NET's profile for hotel, motel and resort desk clerks includes tasks like "Verify customers' credit, and establish how the customer will pay for the accommodation" and "Record guest comments or complaints, referring customers to managers as necessary." The profile for waiters and waitresses starts somewhere else entirely: "Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages."

Same industry, different jobs. Put the target job title in your summary, then pick bullets that match it. Your versions of these duties add a number and a system: 180 check-ins on a Saturday, the property management system you used, how many covers a night.

Back of house and housekeeping duties, in O*NET's words

For kitchen resumes, O*NET's profile for restaurant cooks lists "Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters" and "Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods." Both appear in the line cook example above, written as what this cook did on this station.

For housekeeping, the profile for maids and housekeeping cleaners includes "Keep storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy." That is a whole job description in one sentence, so your resume adds the rooms per shift and the systems you used.

Manager resumes: rates, budgets, teams

The lodging managers profile moves into money and people: "Participate in financial activities, such as the setting of room rates, the establishment of budgets, and the allocation of funds to departments" and "Monitor the revenue activity of the hotel or facility." A manager resume that lists only guest service reads like a supervisor's. Name the rooms or seats, the staff count, the budget you own and the audit or inspection results.

Hospitality resume layout, shifts and certifications

One page for almost everyone, two for a general manager with a long record. Order: name and contact, a two-line summary with the target job title, skills with systems by name (Opera, OpenTable, Toast, Micros), experience, certifications, then education. Put availability in its own line, because a manager filling Saturday nights reads that first.

Certifications go on their own line: food handler card, ServSafe Manager, TIPS or your state's responsible alcohol training, first aid. Name the state where it matters.

For the summary lines, use the resume summary examples. Bar resumes have their own guide in the bartender job descriptions for a resume, and servers can add their alcohol training using server certification on a resume. For stronger bullet openers, see the resume action verbs. Full role pages: the hotel front desk agent resume, the server resume, the line cook resume, the housekeeper resume, the restaurant manager resume, the hotel manager resume and the hospitality manager resume.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a resume for the hospitality industry?

Pick the exact job, such as server, front desk agent or line cook, and name it in your summary. Then write bullets with a number and a system for each duty: covers, rooms, check-ins, the POS or property management system. Add certifications and your availability on their own lines, and keep it to one page.

What should a hospitality resume include?

Contact details, a two-line summary with the target job, skills with systems by name, experience with numbers, certifications such as a food handler card, ServSafe or TIPS, and the shifts you can work. Managers add staff counts, budgets and inspection or audit results.

How do I write a hospitality resume with no experience?

Use school, volunteering, sports or any job where you dealt with the public, handled cash or worked to a schedule. Add a food handler card, which is quick to get, and list evenings, weekends and holidays as available. The host example above is a first job resume.

What skills are good for a hospitality resume?

Point of sale and reservation systems by name, cash handling, food safety, alcohol service rules, upselling, complaint handling, and for hotels a property management system such as Opera. For kitchens, list stations, food safety logs and prep. Prove soft skills such as teamwork in the bullets with a real shift.

How long should a hospitality resume be?

One page for host, server, cook, housekeeping and front desk roles, even after several jobs. A general manager with ten or more years can use two pages. Cut duties every hospitality worker shares and keep the bullets that carry your own numbers.
