LPN Skills for Resume: 6 Examples With Skills Lists

The LPN skills for a resume that earn interviews are the clinical ones you can name and count: medication administration, wound care, IV therapy, vital signs, charting in the EHR you used, and the patients per shift you carried. Below are six complete examples, from a new graduate to a charge LPN, checked in November 2026. Each pairs a skills block with the bullets that prove it. Choose the closest one, then keep only what you have actually done and are licensed to do in your state.

A skills line that says compassionate, hard-working, team player is true of everyone on the unit and useful to nobody on the hiring side. A skills line that says IV starts, wound vac changes, 24 residents tells the director of nursing how to staff you.

Example 1: a new LPN graduate

New graduates have clinical rotations, not jobs. Count the hours, the settings and the skills you were checked off on.

What the sources agree on

The U.S. Department of Labor's O*NET database describes the job as: "Care for ill, injured, or convalescing patients or persons with disabilities in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, group homes, and similar institutions." That list of settings is also a list of resume headings. Name yours.

Its task list is the best source of skill wording. Among the tasks: "Administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on patients' charts." And: "Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action." Notice that each task pairs an action with documentation. Your bullets should too.

MIT's career office says in its resume guide: "Whenever possible, include how you performed tasks, not just what you did." For nursing, the how is the setting, the patient load and the system.

Harvard's career services describes in its resume guide a resume that "should highlight your strongest assets and skills, and differentiate you from other candidates seeking similar positions." Your license, setting and certifications are the differentiators.
