Manager CV Examples: 7 UK Samples From Team Leader Up

A good manager CV proves three things on the first page: how many people you led, what you were responsible for (a budget, a site, a target), and what changed because you were in charge. The manager CV examples below show that in seven versions, from a first team leader to an area manager running several sites. The one constraint is evidence: strong leadership skills is a claim every applicant makes, so each sample replaces it with team size, scope and a result. The structure follows the National Careers Service and Prospects guidance for UK CVs. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
Every manager has read a CV that calls its owner a results driven people leader and learned nothing from it. These samples are what to write instead.
A first team leader CV sample
The National Careers Service describes a CV as "a summary of your skills, achievements and experience that you use to apply for jobs." For a first management job, the achievements are the part that does the work, because you have no management title yet to point at.

Entry level: sales assistant moving to team leader (122 words)
Personal statement Sales assistant with four years at a busy high street fashion store, covering the team leader on lates and weekends for the last eighteen months. Open and close the store, run the till reconciliation and brief a team of six on the day's targets. Looking for a first permanent team leader role in retail.
Experience Sales Assistant and Shift Cover, Harlow & Pike Clothing, Chelmsford, 2022 to present - Run the evening shift twice a week for a team of six, including breaks, tasks and cashing up - Trained five new starters on the till, returns and the fitting room process - Reorganised the stockroom by size and line, so replenishment during Saturday peaks no longer stalls the shop floor
What a manager CV should contain, in order
Use this order for every sample on the page:
- Name and contact details. The National Careers Service is clear that "You should not include your age, your date of birth, whether you're married or your nationality."
- A personal statement of three or four lines. Prospects says it is "Usually placed at the top, it picks out a few relevant achievements and skills, while expressing your career aims."
- Experience in reverse date order, each role with team size and scope in the first line.
- Key skills, written as things you have done, not adjectives.
- Education and training, including any management qualification.
Two pages is normal for a manager. Keep everything older than about ten years to a line each.
Assistant manager CV example
The assistant manager CV is where you start talking about the business, not just the shift.

Entry level: assistant manager, hospitality (118 words)
Personal statement Assistant manager at a 90 cover restaurant with a bar, responsible for rotas, stock ordering and the late close. Lead a front of house team of twelve and deputise for the general manager two days a week. Personal licence holder, aiming for a general manager role in a branded group.
Experience Assistant Manager, The Copper Kettle Kitchen, Leeds, 2023 to present - Build the weekly rota for twelve staff around the sales forecast and the labour budget the general manager sets - Order wet and dry stock twice a week and run the monthly stocktake with the area auditor - Introduced a pre-shift briefing on allergens after a near miss, now part of the company induction
Store manager CV sample
Retail manager duties are spelled out on the National Careers Service retail manager profile: you could "control budgets and provide reports to company executives" and "recruit, train and supervise staff". A store manager CV should show both halves, the numbers and the people, with your own figures.

Mid level: store manager, grocery (122 words)
Personal statement Store manager with eight years in grocery retail, currently running a convenience store with a team of 22 and weekly sales reported to the area manager every Monday. Known for fixing availability and staff turnover in stores that had both problems. Seeking a larger format store.
Experience Store Manager, Fenwick Fresh, Nottingham, 2021 to present - Lead a team of 22 across three shifts, with two shift managers reporting to me - Cut waste on chilled lines by moving to twice daily date checks and smaller, more frequent orders - Rebuilt the team after a year of high turnover: structured inductions, fixed rota patterns and monthly one to ones - Passed every internal compliance audit since taking over the store
Operations manager CV example
Operations CVs live or die on scope. Say what you run in the first line of the role: the site, the shifts, the headcount and the measures you are judged on. The operations manager resume page has more bullets in this style.

Mid level: operations manager, warehouse (114 words)
Personal statement Operations manager at a 24 hour distribution centre for a home and garden retailer, responsible for inbound, picking and dispatch with 140 staff across three shifts. Background in shift management and lean improvement. Looking for a site operations role with a larger network.
Experience Operations Manager, Northgate Logistics, Daventry, 2020 to present - Manage four shift managers and 140 permanent and agency staff on a three shift pattern - Own the weekly labour plan, agency spend and the dispatch accuracy figures reported to the client - Led the move from paper picking to handheld scanners across the site without missing a dispatch cut off - Chair the site health and safety committee
Office manager CV sample
Office managers often undersell themselves because the job is a hundred small things. Group them into the three areas the reader cares about: people, money and systems.

Mid level: office manager, professional services (107 words)
Personal statement Office manager for a 35 person architecture practice, looking after facilities, suppliers, the office budget and a team of three administrators. Comfortable running HR administration and onboarding. Looking for an office or operations manager role in a growing firm.

The office manager resume guide covers the US version of this role if you are applying abroad.
Area manager and general manager CV example
At senior level the reader wants to know the size of the patch and what you changed across it. Keep the bullets about decisions, not about attending meetings.

Senior level: area manager, multi-site (109 words)
Personal statement Area manager responsible for eleven coffee shops across the South West, with eleven store managers reporting to me and a combined team of around 160. Background as a store manager and new store opener. Looking for a regional operations role.
Experience Area Manager, Brightwell Coffee Co, Exeter, 2020 to present - Lead eleven store managers through monthly visits, one to ones and a quarterly business review - Opened three new stores, including recruiting and training the opening teams - Brought two loss making stores back to profit by changing opening hours and rota patterns - Developed four team members into store managers through the internal training scheme
For a single site with full profit and loss responsibility, the general manager resume shows how to frame it.
A management CV for a career changer
Moving into management from another field? Lead with the parts of your old job that were management in everything but name.

Career changer: teacher moving into operations management (98 words)
Personal statement Head of year at a secondary school for five years, leading a team of eight tutors and responsible for the attendance, behaviour and welfare of 240 students. Experienced in planning, staff development and difficult conversations with parents. Moving into an operations or people manager role outside education.
Experience Head of Year 9, Ashcombe Academy, Coventry, 2020 to present - Line manage eight form tutors, including observations and development plans - Plan and run the year group calendar, trips and parents' evenings - Introduced a weekly attendance review that the school later adopted for every year group
Key skills for a manager CV
Skills on a manager CV should read like evidence. Leadership on its own says nothing. Line management of 22 staff says it all. The manager skills guide lists the ones worth naming and how to prove each one. Useful groups:
- People: line management, recruitment, training, performance reviews, rotas
- Money: budgets, forecasting, labour cost, stock and waste
- Operations: compliance, health and safety, process improvement, reporting
Prospects puts it plainly: "Anyone can write on their CV that they are able to remain calm under pressure." That is exactly why every skill above should appear again inside a bullet with a number or an outcome.
When the job asks for a cover letter
Most UK manager vacancies ask for a cover letter or a supporting statement. The manager cover letter examples page has samples that pair with the CVs above, and the CV examples hub has samples for other roles if you are applying across job titles. Before you send, check the list in what not to include on a UK CV.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a manager CV be?
Two pages is normal for a manager in the UK. A first team leader can fit on one page. Keep the most recent ten years in detail and reduce older roles to a single line each with the employer, title and dates, so the page space goes to the jobs the reader cares about.
What should a manager CV personal statement say?
Three or four lines: your current role and the size of your team, the scope you are responsible for, one thing you are known for fixing or building, and the job you want next. Leave out adjectives like dynamic or results driven. A number and a role tell the reader more than any adjective.
How do I write a manager CV with no management title?
Use the management work you already do: covering shifts, training new starters, running a project, deputising for your manager. Put it in the first bullet of the role and name the team size. A title like Sales Assistant and Shift Cover is honest and tells the reader exactly where you are.
Should a manager CV include figures?
Yes, where you are allowed to share them and they are your own: team size, number of sites, staff trained, audits passed. If sales or budget figures are confidential, describe the change instead, such as returning a store to profit, without the exact amount. Never invent a percentage to fill a line.
What is the difference between a manager CV and a manager resume?
In the UK it is called a CV and usually runs to two pages with a personal statement at the top. In the US a resume is often one page and leaves out referees. The content is the same evidence: team size, scope and results, written in reverse date order.
