Psychology Resumes Samples: 6 Full Examples by Career Stage

Psychology resumes samples that get interviews lead with what you can do with people or data on day one: the assessments you can give, the populations you have worked with, the research methods and software you know, and the hours you have logged under supervision. A degree title alone does not tell a lab director or a clinic manager any of that. The CareerOneStop resume guide from the US Department of Labor puts it simply: "Place Education near the top if it’s an essential requirement for the job or you’re a new grad, otherwise place this after Work History." In psychology that rule splits the samples in two: education first for students and new graduates, work history first once you hold a job. The six samples below show both, from a new graduate to a licensed clinical psychologist. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
Psychology resume sample for a new graduate
A bachelor's degree in psychology opens research, case work and behavioral health jobs, but only if the resume shows skills an employer can use. Put education first, then the methods you actually ran: surveys, data entry, coding observations, statistics software. Name your senior thesis or lab, because that is the closest thing you have to work history.

Psychology resume example for a current student
Students applying for a summer internship or a part time lab job have less to show, so the resume leans on coursework, a research methods class project and any job that involved people under stress: tutoring, camp counseling, a crisis line. Psychology resume or CV: which one to send
Psychology resumes are one or two pages and fit jobs: research assistant, behavior technician, case manager, psychometrist, staff psychologist in a clinic. A psychology CV has no page limit and lists every publication, poster, grant, teaching role and clinical placement. Send a CV for graduate school, internship match, postdoc and faculty jobs, and a resume for everything else. If you are unsure, read the posting: "CV" in an academic or hospital research posting means the full document. Our CV vs resume guide explains the difference outside psychology too.
- Resume: summary, education, experience, skills. Tailored to one job.
- Academic CV: education, clinical training, research, publications, presentations, teaching, awards, memberships.
- Both: the same names, dates and titles, so a reader who sees both finds no gaps.
How to write each section of a psychology resume
The summary does the most work. Three lines: your level, your setting and population, and the methods or assessments you use. The professional summary guide has more patterns. For the skills block, name tools and methods (SPSS, R, REDCap, specific test batteries, therapy models) rather than traits like empathy, which every applicant claims. The hard skills guide shows how to phrase them.
- Experience bullets: action, population or setting, method, result or standard met.
- Supervised hours: put them in plain numbers for practicum and internship roles.
- Confidentiality: never name a client, a school or details that could identify a person.
Frequently asked questions
What should psychology resumes include?
Contact details, a three line summary, education, experience with bullets that name the setting, population and methods, and a skills block with software, assessments and therapy models. Add licenses and credentials with the issuing state or body. New graduates put education first; experienced candidates put it after work history.
How do I write a psychology resume with no experience?
Use your lab work, thesis, research methods projects, volunteering and any job with people under stress, such as tutoring, camp or a crisis line. Name the methods and software you used. The graduate and student samples on this page are built that way.
Should a psychology graduate list GPA and coursework?
List GPA only if a posting asks for it or it is strong, and keep coursework to one line of the classes that match the job, such as research methods, statistics or abnormal psychology. After your first job, drop both and let the experience carry the page.
What jobs can I apply for with a psychology degree resume?
With a bachelor's degree: research assistant, behavior technician, psychiatric technician, case aide, human resources and market research roles. A master's opens psychometrist, counseling and school roles depending on state rules. Licensed psychologist jobs need a doctorate and a state license.
Is a psychology resume one page or two?
One page for students and new graduates, two pages for experienced clinicians or researchers. Academic and internship applications use a full CV with no page limit. Keep whichever document you send consistent with your LinkedIn profile.
