How to write a dietitian resume
A dietitian resume is screened first for one thing: registration status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, plus state licensure or certification where the state requires it. Until the reader sees RDN or RD after your name and a completed accredited internship, nothing else on the page is being evaluated.
After that, the reader wants to know which practice setting you can walk into. Acute care nutrition support is a different job from outpatient counseling, which is different from long term care, food service management, renal dialysis, sports nutrition or WIC. Hiring managers screen on setting first because a clinical dietitian who has never written tube feeding orders cannot cover an intensive care unit next week.

Format: one page early, two after the first supervisory role
Reverse chronological, one clean column, no icons or graphics, because hospital systems and large food service contractors parse resumes before a human sees them. One page through the first five years, two pages once you have added supervision, program development or multiple settings.
Directly under the summary, add a credentials block: RDN or RD with the registration status, state license or certification with the state, the accredited internship you completed with its hours, and any specialist credential such as CSR, CSO, CSSD, CSP or CSG. Summary: setting, caseload, and the diagnoses you carry
Two or three sentences that name the setting, the years, the caseload size, and the patient populations. Critical care, oncology, renal, gastrointestinal, bariatric, pediatric, eating disorders and diabetes are all recognizable to a nutrition manager and each implies a different skill set.
If you are changing settings, name the transferable core: nutrition focused physical examination, malnutrition diagnosis using accepted clinical characteristics, estimating needs, and counseling technique. A long term care dietitian moving to acute care should lead with malnutrition assessment and enteral nutrition, not with menu approvals.
Clinical experience: census, acuity and nutrition support
Head each role with the facility type and size: bed count and the units you covered, or the clinic and its weekly visit volume. Then give your daily census or weekly caseload, because that is the single number a nutrition manager uses to judge whether you can carry their floors.
Write nutrition support explicitly. Enteral formula selection and rate advancement, parenteral nutrition ordering or recommendation, refeeding syndrome monitoring, electrolyte and glycemic follow up, and whether you held order writing privileges under a protocol. Order writing privileges change the value of a hire more than almost anything else on a clinical dietitian resume.
Include the documentation and screening tools by name: the nutrition care process with its assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation structure, the malnutrition screening tool your site used, subjective global assessment, and the electronic record you charted in such as Epic, Cerner or Meditech.
Outcomes and education: what changed for the patient
Dietitian resumes are usually a list of duties, which is why a single outcome bullet stands out. Use the measures your setting actually tracks: malnutrition documentation and diagnosis capture rate, length of stay for malnourished patients, unintended weight loss in long term care, laboratory markers for renal or diabetes clinics, adherence to a nutrition care plan, or completion rates for a group education series.
For counseling roles, show the method rather than the topic. Motivational interviewing, carbohydrate counting, exchange systems, plate method education, tube feeding training for caregivers, and the follow up interval you worked to. Method plus follow up interval reads as a real practice, while nutrition education reads as a job title.
Food service, regulatory and program work
If your role touched food service or regulatory compliance, give it a short block. Therapeutic menu development and diet manual maintenance, allergen and texture modified diet systems, sanitation and safety inspection results, survey preparation for long term care and hospital accreditation, and staff training. Skilled nursing and contract food service employers read this before the clinical bullets.
Program and community work belongs here too: WIC caseloads, diabetes self management education programs, worksite wellness, school nutrition, and grant funded projects. Name the population and the recurring volume so the reader sees the scale.

Mistakes that cost dietitian candidates the interview
