Product engineer means two very different jobs depending on the company. In some software companies it means something closer to a full stack engineer close to the customer. A resume that does not settle this in the first line loses both audiences.
This guide is written for the manufacturing version. The hiring manager reading your resume is looking for someone who can hold a product together across design, operations, quality and sourcing without owning any of those functions outright. Influence without authority is the actual skill, and it shows up in the resume as problems closed across departmental lines.
Below is the structure that suits the role, what belongs in each section, three example summaries, five before and after bullets, and the questions product engineers ask most when rewriting.
Format: state the lifecycle stage you own
Reverse chronological, one to two pages. Immediately under the summary, add a line naming the lifecycle stages you have owned: pilot build, ramp, steady state production, cost reduction and end of production. A candidate who has only worked at launch and one who has run a mature product for years bring different value, and the reader needs to know which you are.
Include product families and annual volumes in each job header. Volume changes the entire nature of the work, because a one percent yield gain on a high volume line funds a project, while on low volume it is noise.

Name the product category and the volume in the first sentence. Then give the two numbers this role lives by: something on the cost or yield side and something on the quality or return side. Product engineering credibility comes from moving both together, because a cost reduction that raised warranty claims is a loss the reader has seen before.
Finish with the cross-functional statement made concrete. Rather than claiming collaboration, say that you chaired launch readiness reviews, or that you owned the engineering change board agenda for a product line.
Experience: launch, sustain, improve, close
Launch bullets should show the gate work: readiness criteria, pilot build results, open item closure, work instruction and control plan readiness, and the sign-off you held. A product engineer is usually the person holding the checklist that says production may begin, so say that plainly.
Sustaining bullets should show engineering change discipline. Keeping drawings, bill of material, work instructions and inspection documents aligned through every revision is unglamorous and is exactly what breaks when nobody owns it. State the number of changes managed and the products affected.
Improvement bullets carry the numbers. Yield improvement with the root cause named, cost reduction with the warranty outcome stated, scrap reduction with the process change described.
