Bank Teller Responsibilities for Resume: 6 Full Examples

Bank teller responsibilities for a resume are the standard teller duties (cash handling, deposits and withdrawals, balancing the drawer, verifying identity, spotting fraud and referring customers to products) rewritten so each line proves how well you did them. Every teller applicant lists the same duties, because every teller does them. What a branch manager is looking for is the proof behind each one: how often your drawer balanced, how many transactions you handled, whether you caught a bad check. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics' teller occupation profile states the core of the job in one sentence: "Tellers are responsible for the safe and accurate handling of the money they process." Below are the duties turned into bullets, then six complete experience sections from first job to head teller. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
Bank teller duties to put on a resume
The official duty lists are the right starting point, because bank job postings are written from them. The BLS profile opens its list with "Count the cash in their drawer at the start of their shift" and closes it with "Count the cash in their drawer at the end of their shift and make sure the amounts balance". The O*NET teller profile adds "Resolve problems or discrepancies concerning customers' accounts." Use those words, because the applicant tracking system is matching them, and then add your proof.

Entry level: the core duties rewritten as resume bullets (97 words)
TELLER DUTIES, WRITTEN FOR A RESUME
Process deposits, withdrawals, transfers, loan payments and check cashing for about 150 customers a day. Balance the cash drawer at open and close; drawer balanced on every audit in the past year. Verify customer identity and signatures before every withdrawal and check cashing transaction. Spot and escalate suspected counterfeit notes and altered checks under the branch fraud procedure. Prepare cashier's checks and money orders and record every transaction in the core banking system. Refer customers to personal bankers for savings, credit card and loan products, with referrals logged in the CRM.
The difference between a duty and a resume bullet is the second half. "Balance cash drawer" is a duty. "Balanced the drawer on every audit in the past year" is a bullet. If you do not have an exact number, use a frequency or a standard you met: daily, every shift, no variances, within policy.
Bank teller resume with no banking experience
Most tellers come from retail, food service or customer service. Write those jobs in teller language: cash handled, registers balanced, ID checks for age restricted sales, upset customers calmed. A branch manager hiring a first teller is checking for accuracy and calm, not banking knowledge. Our customer service resume guide covers the service side in more depth. Tellers who later move into back office work can reuse the same proof, as the bank teller opening line in our data entry cover letter examples shows.

Train new cashiers on cash handling and the counterfeit detection pen.

Experienced teller: accuracy, volume and referrals
After a year or two, the resume should show three things: volume, accuracy over time and referrals. Banks measure tellers on referrals to bankers, and a teller who knows that and puts it on the page reads like someone ready for a universal banker role. The BLS profile notes tellers "may recommend the bank’s products or services" and "refer the customer to the appropriate personnel."

Mid level: teller with three years at a community bank (105 words)
EXPERIENCE
Teller II First Prairie Bank, Wichita, KS | June 2022 to Present Handle deposits, withdrawals, loan payments and wire requests for business and personal customers at the busiest branch in the region. Universal banker and teller with sales duties
Many banks now hire universal bankers who work the teller line and open accounts. If that is your role or the one you want, split your bullets between transactions and account work so the reader sees both.

Mid level: universal banker covering the teller line (79 words)
EXPERIENCE
Universal Banker Chase, Charlotte, NC | September 2021 to Present Work the teller line during peak hours: deposits, withdrawals, cashier's checks and cash orders for the drawer. Open checking, savings and credit card accounts, completing customer identification and disclosure steps. Help customers set up mobile banking and online bill pay at the desk. Schedule appointments for mortgage and investment specialists and follow up with customers after. Complete the required anti money laundering, fraud and privacy training each year.
Head teller and vault teller responsibilities
Head tellers do everything a teller does plus run the line. The BLS profile describes head tellers as having "some managerial duties, such as setting work schedules or helping other tellers." Put those duties first, then the vault and audit work.

How to write the duties section without copying a job description
Start with the posting. The CareerOneStop resume guide says to use "terms that match their job posting", so if the ad says "cash handling" and "referrals", those exact words go into your bullets. Then:
- Four to six bullets for your current teller job, two or three for older ones.
- Put accuracy and fraud bullets first; they are what a bank worries about.
- One referral or sales line, because banks track it whether the ad says so or not.
- Leave out personal customer details and account numbers, even as examples.
- Dates, order and promotions follow the rules in our employment history for resume guide.
For the rest of the page, see the bank teller resume guide. When you get the interview, our bank teller interview questions cover the cash handling and fraud scenarios you will be asked about, and the resume action verbs list helps vary the first word of each bullet.
Frequently asked questions
What are the responsibilities of a bank teller for a resume?
Processing deposits, withdrawals, check cashing and loan payments; balancing the cash drawer; verifying identity and signatures; detecting fraud and counterfeit money; preparing cashier's checks and money orders; recording transactions; and referring customers to bankers. On a resume, add proof to each one: volume, accuracy record or a result.
How do I describe bank teller duties on a resume?
Start each bullet with a verb, name the duty, then add how well you did it. "Balanced the drawer on every audit in the past year" beats "responsible for balancing drawer". Use the exact terms from the job posting, such as cash handling, compliance and referrals, so the applicant tracking system matches them.
What should I put on a bank teller resume with no experience?
Your cash handling jobs: cashier, server, retail or ticket sales. Write them in teller terms: registers balanced, payments handled, ID checks, disputes resolved. Add any math, customer service or banking coursework. Branch managers hiring a first teller mainly check for accuracy, reliability and calm with customers.
How many bullet points should a bank teller job have on a resume?
Four to six for your current or most recent teller role, and two or three for older ones. Each should carry a different duty, with accuracy and fraud prevention first and one line on referrals or sales goals, since most banks measure tellers on them.
What is the difference between teller and head teller responsibilities?
A head teller does every teller duty and also supervises the line: scheduling, coaching, approving overrides, handling escalated problems and managing the vault. On a resume, lead with the supervisory duties and team size, then the vault and audit results, then the transaction work.
