Senior Financial Analyst Resume: 5 Examples That Get Calls

A senior financial analyst resume has to show one thing a junior resume cannot: that your analysis changed a decision, such as a budget cut, a pricing move, an investment or a forecast leadership relied on. The one constraint: at senior level, the reader is often a finance director or controller who has built the same models, so "prepared monthly reports" tells them nothing, while "rebuilt the driver-based forecast the CFO uses for quarterly guidance" tells them almost everything. O*NET lists a core task as "Inform investment decisions by analyzing financial information to forecast business, industry, or economic conditions." Below are five complete examples, tagged by level and type of finance team, plus the section order that works. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
You built the model, you defended it in the budget meeting, and you were the one who found the $2M variance at 11pm on day three of close. Your resume says "responsible for financial analysis." It is the most expensive sentence in your job search, and it costs nothing to replace.
Senior financial analyst resume example for FP&A
FP&A resumes lead with the forecast, the budget and the business partners you support.

What a finance director reads on a senior analyst resume
The work is described plainly in O*NET's financial analyst profile, including "Conduct quantitative analyses of information involving investment programs or financial data of public or private institutions, including valuation of businesses." The difference between analyst and senior analyst on a resume is ownership and audience.
Four things get read first:
- Scope. Revenue or budget size of the business you support, and the units or departments.
- Models you own. Forecast, budget, pricing, capital, valuation. Say which ones you built or rebuilt.
- Decisions influenced. The outcome your analysis led to: a cut, an approval, a price change, a deal.
- Audience. CFO, controller, business unit heads, the board. Seniority shows in who you present to.
Credentials matter on the investment side. The CFA Institute says that "As a CFA charterholder, you will be qualified to hold senior and executive positions in investment management, risk management, asset management, and more." On a corporate FP&A resume, a CPA or an MBA is more common; list what you hold.

How to write each section of a senior financial analyst resume
Summary. Years, team type (FP&A, corporate, investment), business size and the model or process you own.
Experience. Open each role with a scope line. Then four to six bullets: the model, the decision, the audience. Use the numbers your employer would allow you to share; scale ranges are fine.
Skills. Systems the posting names: ERP, planning tools, BI, SQL. Leave out Microsoft Word.
Education and credentials. CPA, CFA, MBA. Current ones only.
For the level below, see our financial analyst resume and FP&A analyst resume; for the next step up, the financial controller resume. Keep the layout plain using the ATS friendly resume guide, read resume summary vs objective before you write the top lines, and check the resume format guide for length.
Mistakes on a senior financial analyst resume
- "Responsible for financial analysis" with no model, no decision and no audience.
- Listing every Excel function instead of what the model did.
- Sharing confidential figures your employer would not approve.
- Same bullets as your analyst years, so the step up is invisible.
- Two pages of reporting duties and nothing on business partnering.
Frequently asked questions
What should a senior financial analyst resume include?
Include the size of the business you support, the models you own such as forecasts, budgets and valuations, the decisions your analysis influenced and who you present to. Add systems such as ERP and planning tools, credentials like a CPA or CFA, and any people you mentor or manage.
How is a senior financial analyst resume different from a financial analyst resume?
A financial analyst resume shows accurate reporting and support. A senior financial analyst resume shows ownership: models you built or rebuilt, decisions they changed and a more senior audience such as the CFO or the executive committee. Mentoring junior analysts and leading a process like the annual budget also mark the step up.
What skills are best for a senior financial analyst resume?
Financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis and business partnering lead the list. Add the systems the posting names, such as NetSuite, SAP, Anaplan, Adaptive Planning, SQL or Power BI. Prove each skill in a bullet that names the model or report, instead of listing it alone in a skills block.
How long should a senior financial analyst resume be?
One page works for many senior analysts; two pages are fine for a longer career if page two carries real content. Give the current and previous roles full bullets, and compress earlier roles to title, company type, dates and one line. Credentials and systems fit in short sections at the end.
