What actually gets this resume read
- Put quota, attainment and average deal size in the first bullet, because that trio is what a sales leader scans for.
- Say new business or expansion explicitly, since a renewal number and a new logo number are read very differently.
- Name the segment and the buyer: mid-market human resources leaders is far more useful than enterprise clients.
- List the qualification framework you actually run, such as MEDDPICC or Command of the Message, and the tools behind it.
- Give the sales cycle length and pipeline sources so a manager can judge fit against their own motion.
- Include ramp time and any President Club or top rep finish, both of which shorten the hiring conversation.
How to write a saas account executive resume
A SaaS account executive resume gets screened by someone who reads them all day and has a very short mental checklist: what was the quota, what did you close against it, what was the average deal size, and what segment. If those four facts are not visible in the top third of the page, the file usually stops there regardless of how well the rest is written.
The second read is about believability. A sales leader has been burned by attainment numbers that came from one enormous inherited renewal, so the resume that wins is the one that shows the mechanics behind the number: cycle length, pipeline sources, the qualification framework, how much of the book was new logo versus expansion.
This guide covers the structure a sales leader expects, how to write quota bullets that survive scrutiny, three summaries from a development representative moving up through an enterprise seat, before and after bullets, and the questions account executives ask when they update this page between roles.
Format: one page, quota table optional, no charts
One page until you have roughly eight years of closing experience. Sales resumes are read fast, and a second page usually holds jobs a hiring leader has already decided not to weigh heavily.
A small attainment table under each role works well: fiscal period, quota, attainment, rank. It is easier to scan than a paragraph and it signals that you track your own numbers. Keep it as plain text rows, since graphs and progress bars are dropped or scrambled by applicant systems.
- Header: name, city, phone, email, and one line for a portfolio of references if you have one.
- Order: summary, sales performance snapshot, experience, tools, education.
- Every role opens with segment, territory, quota and deal size before the first bullet.
Summary: segment, quota, attainment, motion
Four lines. Name the segment and the buyer, the quota you carried, your attainment across the last two full years, and the sales motion. Mid-market human resources buyers on a ninety day cycle is a specific claim. Selling enterprise software to businesses is not, and the reader has already seen a hundred of them today.
If you are moving up a segment, be honest about it and lead with the transferable evidence: multi-threading, security review experience, procurement negotiation, or the largest deal you have personally closed. Sales leaders hire up-segment candidates regularly, but they want the bridge stated rather than implied.
Experience: the number, then the mechanics behind it
Open each role with the context line: segment, territory or vertical, quota, average deal size, and whether the quota was new business, expansion or a blend. Then the attainment bullet with the period attached. An attainment figure without its period is the single most common reason a sales resume gets discounted.
The next bullets should explain how. Give the sales cycle length and the number of deals closed, since those two with the quota let a reader reconstruct your year without trusting a single headline. Then name where the pipeline came from: self-sourced outbound, marketing qualified leads, partner sourced, or expansion inside existing accounts. Self-sourced percentage is one of the most persuasive numbers on a modern SaaS resume.
Finish with the operating discipline: forecast accuracy, qualification framework, deal reviews, how you handled security review and procurement. These are the bullets that separate a closer from someone who got lucky in a strong quarter.
Tools and frameworks, written the way the posting writes them
Name the CRM, the engagement platform, the conversation intelligence tool, the data provider and the quoting system. Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Salesloft, Gong, ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator and a CPQ tool are all common filters in these postings.
Then name the qualification framework you actually run, whether that is MEDDPICC, Command of the Message, Challenger or a house methodology, and show one place it changed an outcome. A framework listed without evidence reads as training you attended rather than a habit you keep.
Keywords a sales recruiter filters on
The vocabulary is consistent across SaaS postings: new logo, annual recurring revenue, quota attainment, pipeline generation, discovery, multi-threading, champion, forecast accuracy, expansion, net revenue retention, close rate. Use the ones that match your real motion and attach a number to each one at least once.
SaaS Account Executive resume summary examples
Moving up from development representative
Sales development representative with two years booking 31 qualified meetings a month through cold outbound and sourcing pipeline that converted to 1.9M in closed revenue. Wrote the persona call opener adopted team wide. Ready for a first closing seat in small business or mid-market SaaS.
Three years closing
SaaS account executive carrying an 850K new ARR quota in mid-market, finishing at 118% and 104% in consecutive years with a 46K average deal size. Works a ninety day cycle, multi-threads into finance and security by week two, and runs MEDDPICC scoring in Salesforce.
Enterprise seat
Enterprise account executive with eight years in workforce and finance software, carrying a 2.4M new ARR quota across twelve named accounts. Closed three deals above 400K, navigates security review and legal redlines directly, and mentors two mid-market representatives on discovery.
Work experience bullets: before and after
Before: Consistently exceeded quota.
After: Closed 118% of an 850K new ARR quota in the first full year and 104% in the second, across 34 closed-won deals at a 46K average.
Quota, attainment, period and deal count together let a sales leader verify the number instead of taking it on faith.
Before: Generated my own pipeline through prospecting.
After: Self-sourced 44% of closed pipeline through outbound sequencing in Outreach and referral introductions from existing champions.
A self-sourced share proves you can create demand rather than only converting what marketing hands over.
Before: Worked with multiple stakeholders on deals.
After: Multi-threaded into finance and IT security by week two of every cycle, which cut late-stage slippage and held the average cycle at ninety days.
Naming the personas and the timing shows a repeatable practice, and the cycle effect shows why it mattered.
Before: Kept my forecast up to date in the CRM.
After: Held quarterly forecast accuracy inside ten points for eight straight quarters using MEDDPICC scoring and a weekly commit review with my manager.
Forecast accuracy over a stated run of quarters is one of the few claims that shows discipline rather than luck.
Before: Built relationships with partner companies.
After: Built a co-selling motion with two implementation partners that sourced 28% of annual pipeline and shortened deals with a services component.
The partner contribution to pipeline and the cycle effect turn a relationship claim into a revenue mechanism.

Mistakes that cost saas account executive candidates the interview
- Giving attainment with no quota attached, which lets the reader assume the target was small.
- Hiding that the number came from renewals when the posting is explicitly a new logo seat.
- Leaving out average deal size and cycle length, so a leader cannot tell if your motion matches theirs.
- Listing a qualification framework with no example of it changing a deal outcome.
- Filling the page with tool logos and product features instead of the revenue you produced.
- Skipping ramp time, which is the number a hiring leader uses to model your first two quarters.
SaaS Account Executive resume questions
What if I missed quota in one of my years?
Report it and give the reason in the same bullet: a territory change, a product sunset, a hiring freeze in your vertical. Sales leaders distrust a page where every year is over goal, and an explained miss reads as honesty rather than weakness.
How do I show performance when I only had a partial year?
Give attainment against the prorated quota and say how many months you carried it, then add ramp detail such as first closed deal in month two. Partial years are normal in SaaS and hiding the dates causes more suspicion than the short tenure.
Should I include President Club and ranking on the resume?
Yes, put club finishes and any rank in a short performance block near the top with the size of the sales team included. A rank of six is meaningful only when the reader knows whether the team had twelve people or two hundred.
How much detail should I give about the product I sold?
One clause is enough: the category and the buyer persona. A hiring leader cares whether you sold to human resources, finance or engineering buyers, because that determines how much of your discovery language transfers to their product.
Do short tenures hurt a SaaS account executive resume?
They raise a question, so answer it on the page with a short label such as company acquired, territory eliminated or role consolidated. Two short stops with context read far better than unexplained dates that leave the reader guessing.
