A film industry resume is a credits list: your department and position at the top, then each production with its title, type, your role and the producer, director or department head you worked under, newest first, on one page. The constraint is that film hiring runs on referrals, so the person reading your resume will recognize the names on it and may call them, which means every credit has to be exact. The federal occupation database O*NET describes producers and directors as "Responsible for creative decisions, such as interpretation of script, choice of actors or guests, set design, sound, special effects, and choreography", and those are the people who will read your credits. Below are six film industry resume samples, checked in October 2026, from a first set job to a line producer. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
Film crew resumes have their own problem. You worked eleven productions last year, three of them never came out, one changed its title twice, and the best one is under an NDA. Your resume is now a list of things you are not allowed to talk about. It still works, as long as each line says what you did and for whom.
The first sample is the most common film resume: a production assistant with a year of set work, moving up to a key PA or second second AD track.

How a film industry resume is different
A standard resume lists employers and duties. A film resume lists productions, because almost every job is a separate short contract with a different production company. Department heads and coordinators scan for three things: the type of production (feature, series, commercial, documentary), your exact position, and who you worked under.
Use this order:
- Name, position or department, location and the cities where you work as a local hire.
- Credits, grouped by production type, newest first.
- Equipment, software and union status.
- Training and education, short.
Your position title should be the one the department uses. The O*NET profile for film and video editors lists job titles such as "Film Editor", "Non-Linear Editor" and "Video Editor", and editors are hired on exact terms like assistant editor, editor or online editor. A vague "post production" line tells nobody which chair you sit in.
If you are not in a union, do not mention it; if you are, put the local or the guild status near the top, because some productions can only hire union members for certain positions.

What to cut from a film resume
Film resumes are one page. The two page resume guide explains when a second page earns its place in other fields; on a crew resume it almost never does. When the credits outgrow one page, cut in this order:
- Student films, once you have professional credits in the same position.
- Credits in positions you no longer want, such as PA work once you are a coordinator. Keep one line summarizing them, as the line producer sample does.
- Duty bullets under every credit. A credit line says the job; save bullets for a short "what I do" section.
- Objective statements. The position line under your name does that work.
The CareerOneStop resume guide says a summary "highlights your top skills and accomplishments related to the job, using keywords from the job posting." On a crew resume that becomes one line under your name, with your position and your strongest equipment or software, rather than a paragraph. If you are applying for an office or studio role where a full summary is expected, the resume summary examples show how to write one.
For a single position in depth, see the film editor resume, the film producer resume, the camera operator resume and the video production assistant resume. Performers use a different format again, covered in the acting resume guide.
Frequently asked questions
How do you write a resume for the film industry?
List your credits instead of employers: production title, type, your position and who you worked under, newest first, grouped by features, series, commercials and other work. Add your equipment or software, union status and the cities where you work as a local hire. Keep it to one page and make every name exact.
What should a film crew resume include?
Your name, position, location, phone and email at the top, then credits, then equipment, software and safety certifications, then short training. Crew resumes skip the objective and long duty bullets, because the credit line already tells a department head what you did.
How do I make a film resume with no experience?
Start with student films, short films, music videos and volunteer days on independent productions, and list them as credits with your position. Add a driving record, any safety certification and software you know. Ask to be listed as a PA on every set you help, so you have a real credit to write down.
Should I include unreleased projects on my film resume?
Yes, if you worked on them. List the working title and the production company, and mark the project as in post production if needed. If you signed an NDA, use the description you are allowed to give, such as "untitled streaming drama", rather than leaving the work off.
Do film industry resumes need a summary?
Usually not a paragraph. A position line under your name, such as "1st AC, own focus kit, New York", does the job of a summary. Producers and coordinators applying to studio or office roles can add two or three lines on budgets, schedules and team size.
