Resume Templates for Retail: 6 Full Samples by Store Role

The best resume template for retail is a plain one-page, one-column layout with a short summary, your availability, store experience with numbers, and a skills line that names the register, the stock system and the floor work you have done. The constraint is the reader: a store manager or district recruiter scans it fast, often through an applicant tracking system first, so a fancy two-column design can scramble before a person sees it. O*NET, the US Department of Labor's occupation database, defines retail salespersons in one line: "Sell merchandise, such as furniture, motor vehicles, appliances, or apparel to consumers." Below are six complete retail sample resumes, from cashier to store manager, checked against O*NET task lists in October 2026, plus the retail resume format that holds them together. Written by Mustafa Tarabya, who hired for his own company, read every application himself and now writes CVBooster's guides.
Retail resume templates online come with a headshot circle, a skills bar that rates "Customer Service" at four out of five stars, and a sidebar in teal. Nobody has ever been hired because their customer service was four stars. The manager wants to know if you can close on Sundays.
Cashier resume template
Cashier jobs are screened on accuracy and speed. The O*NET cashier profile lists the core duty as "Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits", so open with the register work and prove your drawer balances.

Retail resume format: the order that works
A retail resume format is reverse chronological on one page, the same chronological resume format most hourly jobs expect. Use this order:
- Header: name, city and state, phone, email. No photo, no age.
- Summary: two or three lines with your role, years, store type and one number.
- Experience: most recent first. Title, store, city, dates, then three to five bullets starting with a verb.
- Skills: the register or POS, inventory tools, languages, equipment certifications.
- Education: high school, college or certificates. Add expected graduation if you are still in school.
- Availability: one line with days and hours. Retail is the one field where this belongs on the page.
O*NET's cashier profile includes "Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change." That is a resume bullet hiding in a government database. Read the O*NET task list for your role and turn the tasks you actually did into bullets with your own numbers.
Choosing a retail resume template
Pick a template by the job, not by the look. One column and standard headings read cleanly in applicant tracking systems. Color is fine in the name and headings; skill bars, icons and tables are not. A pretty template is not a strategy. The first three lines answering the job posting is the strategy, and our guide to the best resume format explains why.
CVBooster has 99 templates in the template gallery; pick a one-column one for retail. For role-by-role versions, see the retail sales associate resume, cashier resume, retail supervisor resume and retail manager resume pages. Applying in the UK instead? Our retail assistant CV example uses British spelling and layout.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best resume template for retail?
A one-page, single-column template with clear headings: header, summary, experience, skills, education and availability. Avoid columns, tables and skill bars because applicant tracking systems can misread them. Keep color to the name and headings, and use the space for numbers from your store work instead.
What is the best retail resume format?
Reverse chronological, most recent job first, on one page. Start with a two or three line summary, then experience with three to five verb-led bullets per job, then skills, education and availability. Only move to a skills-first format if you have no retail or customer work at all to show.
What should I put on a retail resume with no experience?
School activities, sports, volunteering, babysitting, school store or fundraiser work, and anything where you handled money or helped people. Add the POS or payment apps you have used, any language you speak and a clear availability line. The second sample on this page is a complete version.
Should a retail resume include availability?
Yes. Retail schedules run on evenings, weekends and holidays, and managers often filter applicants on who can cover them. Put one line at the bottom with the days and hours you can work. If your availability is wide open, say so near the top in your summary as well.
What skills belong on a retail resume?
Cash handling, POS systems, returns and exchanges, consultative selling, loyalty or credit card sign-ups, inventory counts, planograms, visual merchandising and any equipment certification. For supervisors add scheduling, opening and closing, and deposits. Back each one with a bullet in your experience section so the skill is proven, not just listed.
